Caolan Ward announces inter-county retirement:
Today we say thank you to one of Donegal’s most steadfast defenders. Caolan Ward first donned the gold and green in 2013, and was fully committed from the start, even travelling from Carlow on buses and trains just to keep up with inter-county training.
His athleticism and discipline, honed in his younger years as a long-jumper and track athlete, became a hallmark of his football, his boundless energy allowed him to get up and down the pitch throughout the game, with a commitment that never wavered.
At club level with St Eunan’sGAA, he lifted multiple county titles (2012, 2014, 2021, 2024) and earned the prestigious Gradam Shéamuis Mhic Géidigh in 2021 as Donegal Senior Football Championship Player of the Year, a rare honour for a defender!
At inter-county level, Caolan helped us to Ulster titles in 2018, 2019, 2024 & 2025. Over his years in the senior panel he embodied the grit, resilience and heart that define Donegal football.
He may be stepping away from the county jersey, but the work ethic, loyalty and determination he showed will remain a benchmark for all who follow.
Thank you, Caolan. For the miles travelled, the tackles made, the effort given, and the pride shared 💛💚
