Dún na nGall 3-15

Meath Royals 0-11

A victory against Meath Royals for Adie Gaffey’s young Donegal hurlers in the first round of the Celtic Challenge yesterday in Dunganny, Co. Meath on a scoreline of Meath Royals 0-11 Donegal 3-15 gives them that all important winning start in their campaign. “Happy with the performance over all” says Gaffey. “The work rate was where we want the lads to be operating at and the areas we have been concentrating on – possession, shot selection and scores from play are starting to show results”.

The long trip to Dunganny didn’t impact the performance on the field of play and with playing conditions as good as any summer’s afternoon, it was a matter of bringing the game to the Meath opposition on their own turf. A good number of Donegal supporters making the trip up for the day is a real encouragement for the squad.
The result is that start that they needed ahead of a visit from Mayo for round 2 in this Group 6 in Convoy next Saturday.
“Mayo will be a tougher challenge for us next week and we will have to up our performance in a few areas of play to get past them” says Gaffey, who knows the capability in the Mayo ranks.

That Group 6 round 2 fixture is set for 1200 with venue TBC for next Saturday 15th April and plenty of local support expected to cheer the lads on.
