The match Declan Bonner and his senior Donegal squad have been focusing on since the start of the year is almost upon us – the heavyweight Ulster Senior Championship clash between Donegal and Armagh in Páirc Sheáin Mhic Cumhaill on Sunday, April 24th. The Orchard County are resurgent and widely seen as a coming team with a strong Allianz league performance under their belts. Donegal on the other hand are generally regarded as having had a middling league campaign with a more uncertain trajectory. The facts don’t quite align with the National media perspective. Donegal and Armagh both ended on seven points in their Allianz campaigns and Donegal came out on top in their league fixture in March, albeit with nothing to spare. Sparks flew both during and after the game and it all points towards an exciting fixture in Ballybofey this Sunday.
There will be no sharing of the spoils either. It’s a winner on the day game – there is a link to the relevant regulations below. There is a backdoor back into the All-Ireland competition (see link below) but neither side will be given any thought to that prospect at the moment. Armagh expectations are high and they are expected to travel in big numbers. It’s a home game for Donegal though and the players are expecting Donegal fans to turn out in their thousands with plenty of green and gold on display. There are still terrace tickets on sale but the Ulster Council are planning for full capacity.
