Pity about the poor scheduling with three games starting within 30 minutes of each other but nevertheless it was a very good weekend for Donegal GAA.
First out of the blocks were the Ladies at 1.00 in Athlone where they convincingly beat Waterford on a 2-13 to 0-9 scoreline although there championship ended there that unfortunate freak goal against Dublin haunting their campaign. – Geraldine McLaughlin and Karen Guthrie were the goalscorers yesterday. The marquee game of the day for Donegal, the Ulster SFC semi-final, threw in at 1.15 with a characterful performance from the footballers, particularly in the second quarter and capped by a brilliant Peadar Mogan goal, powering them past Armagh to the Ulster final next Sunday.
The Nickry Rackard semi-final between Tyrone and Donegal threw-in at 1.30. Tight throughout the first half the Red Hand County were first to goal but Richie Ryan pulled one back for Donegal who trailed by a point at the half-time break. Donegal took control in the second half with two quick-fire Gerard Gilmore goals putting daylight between the sides as the home side cruised to a 10 point win.
Dates and times for the two finals will be confirmed tomorrow.
