Donegal GAA Coach Education Webinar Series

Donegal GAA’s Games Development Manager Aaron Kyles is introducing a weekly webinair which will feature in the weeks leading up to Christmas. The first of these, on November 4th, will be an introduction to Donegal GAA Club Support Programme.

The webinairs will be via Microsoft Teams. The Club Support Programme is there to assist clubs in developing a club coaching plan alongside developing and mentoring of club coaches through coach the coach’s workshops

Presenter – Professor Kevin Till

Webinar Title – RAMPAGE: A Coaching session framework to facilitate LTAD

Kevin is a Professor of Athletic Development within the Carnegie School of Sport at Leeds Beckett University. Kevin has published over 150 international scientific peer-review publications over the last decade related to youth athletes, talent identification and development, sport science and coaching. Kevin is also a UKSCA accredited strength and conditioning coach and has worked across multiple sports, mainly rugby, for the last 15 years and currently works as a S&C coach at Leeds Rhinos RLFC within their academy programmes.

Webinar Title – FUNdamentals – Learning to Move & Moving to Learn

Owen is currently the Learning and Games Development Coordinator for Dublin GAA and he is a PhD candidate at Leeds Beckett University where his research is on Play in Sport.

In his previous roles he was National Coach & Sport Development Coordinator for Special Olympics Ireland; Games Development Officer at the Rockland Gaelic Athletic Association club in New York, USA and before his move to New York, Owen was a Department of Education Physical Literacy Curriculum Coach and Development Officer with Ulster GAA, working with children from 4-8 years and he was seconded to the position of Ulster Ladies Gaelic as Provincial Development Officer.

He has a real passion for learning and has a very keen interest in Child Development and Coach Education and he has started the iCoachKids Podcast in partnership with iCoachKids. He is a vastly experienced coach and development officer having worked with men’s and ladies Gaelic Football teams of all ages, as well as teams in other sports. He has helped over 40 clubs implement their Strategic Plans within the areas of Coaching & Games, Governance, Best Practice, Community Engagement, Marketing, Fundraising and Communications.

As a Coach Developer, Owen has presented at the GAA National Games Development Conference in 2011 and 2019, Guest Speaker in Sport & Society at Mercy College New York in April 2019, Guest Speaker in IT Carlow on Diversity & Inclusion, 2nd and 3rd ICCE iCoachKids International Conferences at Leeds Beckett 2018 and Limerick 2019 respectively, 2017 Rockland Physical Education Teacher Conference in New York, Ulster GAA Coaching & Games Development Conference in 2012 and the UK National Coaching Conference at Ulster University in 2011, as well as a large number of Club Development and County Development workshops, Webinars and Seminars.

Owen has been a GAA Coach Developer for over 10 years and has facilitated on a vast amount of Foundation, Award One and Award Two Gaelic Football courses and Coach Development workshops all over Ireland, as well as in England for Hertfordshire & Britain GAA and in the United States.

Presenter – Dr. Micheál Cahill

Webinar Title – The Influence of Growth and Maturation on Long-term Athletic Development: Enhancing Performance and Injury Resilience Throughout Adolescence

Dr. Micheál Cahill, a native of Limerick, Ireland is currently the Vice President – Performance and Sports Science at Athlete Training + Health (ATH) and is responsible for the training philosophy within all locations in addition to overseeing the day to day integration of a multidisciplinary sports performance, medicine and research team focusing on applied human performance collaborating with large hospitals. Micheál also works with select athletes across a broad range of sports from national level marathon runners to NFL athletes guiding multiple areas of their training such as sleep, recovery and strength and conditioning. Previously Micheál has worked in various full-time and consultancy roles with multiple sports organizations and athletes around the world. He currently collaborates with universities and professional sporting organizations around the world to advise on best practice through evidence led strategies and embedded postgraduate practical research initiatives.


Micheál completed his bachelors and master’s degrees in Health, Fitness and Leisure and Sports Performance respectively. He obtained his PhD at Auckland University of Technology, New Zealand focusing on acceleration and resisted sprinting in youth adolescents. His current research interests include factors related to linear and multi-directional speed and the influence of strength, speed and power on youth athletes of varying maturation. He is currently a research associate with Auckland University of Technology, New Zealand and Cardiff Metropolitan University, Wales in which he supervises and advises sports science research worldwide.  Micheál resides in Dallas, Texas with his wife, Jenny, and their two sons, Stephen and Jay.
