Coaching Workshops

The first of the six coaching workshops for youth and adult coaches, organised by Games Development Manager Aaron Kyles, is tonight November 4th. It will be led by renowned Ulster GAA coach Roger Keenan and is on “Handling and Passing”. It starts in the Aura Centre Letterkenny at 7.00 pm and runs until 10.00 pm.

Currently six have been agreed from November 4th until February 4th and more will follow. Aaron is currently in discussions about the February to April schedule and is working based on the preferences from Coaches as revealed by the recent survey completed by clubs.

Two weeks from now CLG Dhún na nGall are hosting an inter-active practical indoor/outdoor hurling workshop on, Wednesday November 20th, also in the Aura Centre in Letterkenny. Club coaches at youth and adult level will be taken through the coaching points of the various skills involved in hurling. Where possible coaches should be prepared to take part. Martin Fogarty, the National Hurling Development Officer will be the presenter. It will run from 7 pm to 10 pm. All coaches interested in attending this valuable coaching event should click on the link below.

The third of the series will also be in the Aura Centre Letterkenny on Wednesday December 4th and will be on movement and skill development in Gaelic Games. It will be conducted by Gareth Thornton from Ulster GAA and will run from 7.00 to 10.00 pm. It will be an inter-active workshop primarily aimed at coaches working with 4-14 year olds. They will be exposed to the progression from physical literacy skills to the introduction of Gaelic specific skills. Where possible coaches should come prepared to take part. The fourth and last workshop of the year will be a little different and will be in LYIT rather than the Aura Centre. It is a talk on Strength on Conditioning followed by a Q&A session rather than a workshop with active coach participation. It will be be given by Joe O’Connor a lecturer in Exercise Physiology & Performance Nutrition at the Institute of Technology in Tralee. Joe is also owner of Nissus Fitness. He has served as S&C coach with the Kerry Senior Footballers and Waterford Senior Hurlers as well as performing the same role in helping to guide Clare (2013) and Limerick (2018), his native county, to Liam McCarthy success.
