Electric Ireland Ulster Minor Football Championship – Cavan v Donegal, Breffni Park Sunday 6.00

Donegal minors take on Cavan in the Ulster Championship in Kingspan Breffni park on Sunday at 6.00 pm. The winner progresses to the Ulster semi-finals. Both sides lost their first round games but re-kindled their challenge through the backdoor, Donegal having beaten Armagh with a late blitz in a highly entertaining game in Ballybofey last weekend.

These two sides previously met in the league stages of the Jim McGuigan Cup with Donegal recording a resounding victory in Ballybofey on a 3-13 to 0-6 scoreline. Grounds for optimism, perhaps, but it would be dangerous to read too much into this tie. Donegal had home advantage but more importantly it was a “dead rubber” – the last match of the league section neither side had anything to play for with Tyrone and Sligo already qualified for the semi-finals of the Jim McGuigan.

All support is welcome in Cavan. With their challenge back on track and improving with every game the Donegal u-17s are still in with a fighting chance of winning an Ulster title.
