Maria Devenney on Highland to Discuss Ageing Well Seminar

By Sinéad Breen Donegal PRO Thu 14th Mar

Donegal Ladies legend María Devenney and Niall Thomas of TILDA will be on Highland Radio at 11 am this morning, Thursday March 14, to discuss the upcoming seminar being held in LYIT on ageing well in Donegal. The Irish Longtitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA) is a joint venture between Trinity College Dublin and the GAA.

The seminar, on the afternoon of March 22nd, will discuss the findings of Trinity’s research project, based on chronological surveys. Among the many findings is that strong community networking, living by the sea and being an optimist are all good for your health. The research underpins a series of five seminars across Ireland and is all part of the GAA’s Healthy Club’s Initiative. As well as María, all-Ireland winning captain from 1992 Anthony Molloy is also an ambassador for the Healthy Club Initiative in Donegal.

All Donegal GAA clubs are now obliged to appoint a healthy club officer, Oifigeach Club Sláinte. A very successful workshop for these officers, run by Kevin Mills and Roisin Doherty, was held in the Villa Rose Hotel last week. The purpose was to assist a club’s Oifigeach Club Sláinte to understand the role and put it into practice, to assist clubs in knowing what supports are available to them from GAA HQ in Croke Park and included a dedicated session on developing “A Club Critical Incident Response Plan”
