Paul Hannigan, the President of LYIT, along with the Sports Officer Paddy Gallagher presented 33 Sports Scholarship awards at a lunch in the Mount Errigal Hotel, Letterkenny last week. Almost a third of the recipients were GAA players, five ladies and five men. The latter were: Caoimhin Marley, Letterkenny; Danny Curran, Burtonport; Darragh Black, Milford; Michael Langan, Cresslough and Peadar Mogan, Mountcharles. Some of these lads have transferred back to Donegal from colleges elsewhere in Ireland and provided a key part of this year’s successful Trench Cup team. The five ladies GAA scholarships were awarded to: Saskia Boyle, Burtonport; Zoe Campbell, Cloghan; Victoria Kelly, Raphoe; Aoife McColgan, Malin; and Danielle McDevitt, Glenties.
The President thanked the scholars for representing LYIT in their chosen sport, congratulated them on their scholarship achievement and made reference to the need for good time management between academic studies and sports. He urged all scholars to ensure that they continue to successfully progress in their studies as well as their chosen sport. Paul also welcomed the improved gender balance among the scholars and he attributed this to the growing interest in Ladies Soccer and Ladies GAA.
