U18 Girls defeat Milford:
Our minors girls came through the second test of their championship campaign with victory over Milford in breezy Traigh a Locha on Tuesday evening.
The girls faced into a strong breeze in the first half but made the brighter start, scoring two goals and a point with the first three attacks of the game. Hannah Shiels fired over in the first minute, with Caoimhe Walsh and Niamh Mc Devitt finding the back of the net.
Milford replied and were in the ascendancy for the next ten minutes with our girls finding it difficult to break out of defence against the wind. During this period Milford found the back of the net twice and spurned a couple of other decent chances.
Fanad came out of the blocks after this period and found their rhythm in attack! Caoimhe Walsh found the net for her second goal we scored five unanswered points, two each from Caoimhe Walsh and Lauren Carr with Hannah Shiels also finding the target. Aisling Howe played very well during this period dictating the play from centre half back. Rosheen Mc Ginley must also be commending for a fine bit of goalkeeping late in the half which prevented Milford from scoring their third goal. Half time score Gaeil Fhánada 3:06 Baile na nGallóglach 2:00.
The second half never really caught fire as the first half had, but Fanad continued to hit the target adding three goals and three points to the first half tally, Lauren Carr, Mairead Coll and Caoimhe Walsh finding the net. Further points were added from Aoife Sweeney, Hannah Shiels and Caoimhe Walsh. Both teams are to be commended for battling performances in difficult conditions. Full time score: Gaeil Fhánada 6:09 Milford 2:01. This was a very good team performance and victory means that our girls will progress to the knockout stages in the A section of the competition.

Fanad well represented in Buncrana Cup:
Another proud day for the Fanad Gaels club as we were well represented at this year’s Buncrana Cup with 3 Fanad lads part of the squad that faced off against Monaghan and Armagh.
Mark McAteer, Fergus Friel and Eoin McGonigle were all part of the panel and put in a huge effort to get there.
Mark is a stylish, electric player born with natural ability. His small stature makes him very elusive in games and he has a bright future in both the Fanad and Donegal circles. Fergus is another gifted individual, his strenth and workrate are the two main assets of his game and he is showing all the signs of becoming a key asset to the future of Fanad Gaels. Eoin was recently called up from the U15 development squad, a massive achievement already in the early stages of his career. Eoin is a hugely talented goalkeeper and his experience of playing outfield has made him comfortable on the ball while his kickouts are a big part of his game. Donegal eventually finished third after a narrow one point defeat to Monaghan meant they missed out on the final.
Senior Ladies:
A huge congratulations to our Senior ladies side who qualified for their first championship final after disposing of McCumhaills in their semi final on Sunday morning. A full match report is available on our Facebook page. Team and scorers:

Senior and Reserves:
Our Senior and Reserve sides made the long trek to Dunkineely on Sunday and came away with mixed fortunes.
Our reserves were beaten on a scoreline of 3-12 to 1-12. The game was evenly matched in the first half. Enda Coll was stroking over points for fun and an injury late in the first half curtailed his influence in the second half. Rudi Feenstra hit a customary goal while it was good to see Aidan McAteer, Tiernan Cushnan and Shaun McGovern put in solid shifts as they return from injury. Naomh Ultan were full value for their win based on their second half performance and inevitably their ability to take their goal chances
Our seniors were quick out of the traps and took an early three point lead. From there until the interval they did dominate possession, Mark Friel proving influential, but they went in at the break leading by only two points despite playing some nice football.
The second half started well for Fanad, hitting the first two points. It was again nip and tuck for the remainder of the game. Naomh Ultan had Damien Quigley red carded but it didn’t deter the Dunkineely men and they instantly hit a goal to level the game. That was to be the last score and although Fanad had four chances to win it, they couldn’t find the point to take them over the line. Brian McVeigh was industrious while the two Seami’s were always a threat to Naomh Ultan.
It’s still all to play for and there should be an exciting finale to the league. Fanad have Buncrana up next, to be played in Buncrana, and will have to be at their best to overcome a team who’ve all but secured promotion. Fanad did beat Buncrana earlier this season by 4 points. It was a more promising performance from the Fanad contingent in what’s been a season blighted by injury and emigration.
