Second victory in a week for our U16 boys

Our U16 boys had a good week with 2 victories from 2 against Gweedore and Cloughaneely.  On Monday the lads defeated Gweedore with a much improved performance and dominated Gweedore from start to finish. Final score was Fanad 2-7 Gweedore 1-6. Scorers were John Friel 0-3 Mark Mc Ateer 1-3 and Fergus Friel 0-1. Best performers on the night were Johnny Gallagher, John Friel and Darren Mc Elwaine.

Last night the 16’s made the trip away to Cloughaneely and again put in a good performance. As history tells us it’s never easy travelling to Cloughaneely with honorary Fanad man Sean Mc Garvey in charge of them Fanad got off to a great start with Shaun Kerr netting after great work from Mathew Gallagher and Orin Duffy. Kieran Coyle was causing all sorts of trouble in full forward with Orin Duffy pulling the strings at half back. Half time score Cloughaneely 2-1 Fanad 1-4. The start of the second half saw Cloughaneely race into a four point lead but again Fanad reacted with some fine scores from Mark Mc Ateer. On the 50 minute mark Bernard Mc

Gettigan netted our second goal to send Fanad 4 points clear. Fanad kicked on from there with Eoin Shiels, Kieran Mc Devitt and James Howe playing big parts in dismantling Cloughaneely. Final score was Cloughaneely 3-4 Fanad Gales 2-13. Scorers were Fergus Friel 0-1, Bernard Mc Gettigan 1-2 and Mark Mc Ateer 0-10

Best for Fanad on the Night were Mathew Gallagher, Orin Duffy and Kieran Coyle.

Strong second half showing sees our U14 boys through to Northern Shield Final

A big well done to our U14 boys who disposed of St.Eunans this afternoon to book their place in the Northern Board Division 2 Shield Final. Playing against a strong wind in the first half, the Fanad lads defened very well with Pauric Clinton in particular cancelling out numerous attacks from the Letterkenny outfit. Fanad were leading by the minimum as half time approached but a goal from the impeessive Casey Poole gave us a 4 point lead at half time with the score 2-1 to 0-3 in favour of the Gaels. Fanad had the wind in second half and used it to their advantage and eventually ran out comfortable winners. Fanad posted some high quality long range scores in the second half. Joshua McAteer had a great game at full forward and led the line very well. That result means Fanad are now into their second U14 final this season, a great achievement by the boys.

Foireann: Dan Kerr , Pauric Clinton Mark Gallagher Conor McGarvey, Casey Poole (1-0) Kane McLauglin (0-1) Michael O’Connor, Ronan Sweeney (0-2) Ryan McGinley, Niall Douglas Liam McGrenaghan (0-1) Dylan Kerr (1-0) Jack Martin (1-0) Joshua McAteer (1-2) Brandon Friel (0-1)  Sub used:  Darragh Sweeney.
