BUNCRANA CLG NOTES (15.05.2016)

Senior Football.

This weekend saw our footballers take on Naomh Columba in the first round to the championship. Our senior ran out a draw in what will prove a competitive group. Our senior team saw the return of John Doherty to senior championship. That, coupled with the advantage to Kevin Tracey at full forward shows the all round depth in talent. Buncrana lead by 2 points at halftime. Buncrana had scorers in most areas of the pitch, with Kevin O’Loughlin contributing 2 points from half back. The strength of the full forward line was shown with Kevin Tracey and Oisin Doherty(x) adding 7 points between them. Unfortunately we fell just short of a win but still have a valued point from the draw.

Buncrana: Sean Parker, Mickey Gallagher, Bruce Waldron, Aidan Stokes, Kevin O’Loughlin 0-2, William McLaughlin, John Doherty, Caolan McGonigle, Peter McLaughlin, Oisin O’Flaherty 0-2, Odhran Doherty (x) 0-2, Noel McLaughlin, David Bell, Kevin Tracey 0-3, Oisin Doherty(x) 0-4.

Reserves: Our reserves had an excellent start to the championship with a win over the men from ‘Glen’. Malachy McCann continued with his in form minors, with Ryan McElhinney and Conor O’Donnell controlling midfield. A total of 1-4 came from the midfield pairing. John Cassidy and Owen McColgan were in form also at corner back. Ronan Doherty (x) showed his prowess with an impressive 1-02 from half back. This was a great win for Buncrana reserves on a score line of 3-10 to 0-06.
