MENS FOOTBALL

Our senior footballers ended their Senior Championship campaign on a high note with an emphatic win over N Mhuire at The Banks on Sunday. A defeat would have sent us into a relegation play off where we would have to fight to retain our place in the top tier of the county championship. The game was closely poised early in the second half, but our boys hit a goal scoring purple patch and ran out convincing winners by 6-10 to 1-9. Man of the match was Matthew Byrne who ended the game with an impressive tally of 2-8. Other scorers were Brendan Mc Laughlin 2-1, Declan Walsh and Stephen Mc Laughlin 1-0 each and Kieran Mc Colgan 0-1 The seniors have 3 league games remaining in the coming weeks as they bid to cement their place in Division 1 for next season.

The young reserve side put up a gallant effort in the curtain raiser, but unfortunately the home side were the victors.

LADIES FOOTBALL

The Senior Ladies play off against Red Hugh’s which was due to take place this weekend has now been rearranged for Saturday the 25th of October at 2pm. Details of where this match is to played will be known closer to the time. The play off against Red Hugh’s will determine who is to play in the Division 4 Final.

MARY HOUTEN MEMORIAL CUP

Well Done to Our U14 & U12 Girls who took part in the Mary Houton Memorial Tournament on Saturday. With a total of 21 Girls taking part this annual event was another great success. The 21 girls were divided in 3 teams of 7, with Marys granddaughters Lorna, Darina and Jacqueline all managing a team each. After some tight and hard fought encounters it was Lornas team who emerged with the silverware. We would like to extend our gratitute to Anne Lafferty, Grainne Byrne, Catherine Mc Gilloway and Jennifer Mc Laughlin who took the referees whistle during the tournament. Afterwards the children were treated to some light refreshments in the clubhouse. The winners will be presented with their medals at the underage presentation function at a later date. Once again thanks to all involved, who helped make the competition such a resounding success, and especially to the Houten family who organise the annual tournament in memory of Mary, a long time Malin supporter.

UNDERAGE BOYS

Training for the Under 6 age group in the club gym has recommenced on Sunday mornings at 10-00. The sessions are based on GAA Fundamentals; a Croke Park initiative based on research aimed at bettering your child’s coordination (including hand eye) balance, agility and basic fitness in a fun filled environment. It is also an introduction into the basic skills of Gaelic games. All children are welcome to attend. For more info contact Danny on 086-8988180

KNOW YOUR PARISH

It’s time to get your teams together as we will be hosting our second ever Know Your Parish Quiz in November. Last years event was an outstanding success, with Ballynahona coming out on top in a tie break. More details will be available in the coming weeks but you still have time to brush up on your local knowledge as we set out to see which townland will take home the coveted crown in 2014.

CLUB SHOP

The Malin GAA club shop will be open in the clubhouse on Saturdays from 12-2 and on Sundays from 11-15 to 2-00. There are a large selection of club merchandise in stock, which can be purchased on the day. A list of other club gear, hoodies, rain jackets, shorts, socks, hats, scarves, kit bags etc are also available to order. Club vouchers are now also available and would make an ideal birthday present, or for any occasion. As it is now less than 100 days to Christmas, we would like to remind our followers of the importance of getting your orders in quickly to avoid any disappointment. For more details, contact Susan on 07493 70638.

BON VOYAGE

Everyone involved with our club would like to say a special goodbye to Minor PRO, Senior Ladies player, underage coach and current Malin GAA Country Queen Christina Mc Laughlin who heads off to Chicago for a year. Christina has been an integral part of the Malin GAA communications team over the past 2 years, and has put in an enormous amount of work behind the scenes on the club social media sites and also on the field as a player and an underage coach. No request or task was ever too much for Christina and her hard work and dedication in promoting club activities were very much appreciated, and helped raise the club profile, not only in our own parish, but also throughout the county as a whole. Best of luck in the USA and you will be greatly missed around the club. Also we would like to welcome Linda Mc Colgan on board as her replacement.
