St. Eunan’s Claim Ulster Óg Sport Title

St. Eunan’s GAA Club claimed the Ulster Óg Sport Gael (U15) 7-a-side crown for the second year in a row on Saturday. St. Eunan’s were hosting this year’s event after defeating Clann Eireann from Armagh in last year’s final in Derry. The home side were drawn in a tough group with Bellaghy (Derry), Enniskillen Gaels (Fermanagh) and Inniskeen from Monaghan. They beat Enniskillen in their opening game before winning a titanic battle with Bellaghy in their second game and despite trailing at half-time in their last group game they put in a big second half to win their group. In the semi-final they met Bryansford from Down and managed to reach the final on a score of 1-06 to 2-02 after the Down team scored two late goals, captain Aaron Deeney scored the St. Eunan’s goal. Killeavy (Armagh) beat Bellaghy in the other semi-final to set up another Donegal v Armagh final. The sides were level at half-time but in the second minute of the second half St. Eunan’s got the decisive goal when Matthew McGovern crashed home after a neat one-two with Éoin McGeehin. In a low scoring encounter St. Eunan’s held on to win by 1-02 to 0-04 with Éoin McGeehin and Alex Tinney getting the points for the victorious home team. Two Ulster titles in a row is a great achievement for the Cathedral Town club and they will host the Ulster Finals again next year.
