Club Notes
Any items for inclusion in the weekly Club Notes must be with the relevant PRO by 6:00 on Monday evening at the latest. This is to facilitate local press and ensure that our notes can reach as wide an audience as possible, including those currently far from home.
Minor Board – Eddie Harkin eddie.harkin@wuerth.ie 0866082512
Ladies Board – Madeline McDaid mcdaidmads@eircom.net 0877716511
Senior Board – Connell McGrenra clgantearmainn@live.ie 0860858109
Seniors & Reserves
The Seniors got their first points of the season with a well deserved win away to Ardara on Sunday last. Strong performances from Steve McElwaine, Daireann Gibson and Caolan McDaid paved the way to victory with Joe O’Donnell, Kevin & Sean McDaid thwarting Ardara attacks time and time again. The Reserves were defeated by a more experienced home team.
This weekend sees both teams playing at home against St. Eunans in a local derby on Sunday afternoon. After narrowly losing the return fixture earlier in the year the Reserves will be hoping to get off the mark while the Seniors will be hoping to build some momentum leading up to Championship in the coming weeks. As with all local derbies, this is sure to be a full-blooded encounter with recent form and past results going out the window, and we would encourage all supporters to make the effort to get behind the Reserves at 1:30 and Seniors at 3:00.
Minor Board in association with ESB Networks
After a few quiet weeks it was full steam ahead over the past few days at Minor Board level. On Friday last an under-strength U16 team travelled to Buncrana and despite a courageous performance came away with nothing to show for their efforts. Next up its St Eunans B this Friday evening at the Burn Road, and we would ask everyone to come out and support this team if you’re about. On Monday our two U12 teams put in superb performances against two strong Cloughaneely teams and recorded another two impressive victories. In the first game, Luke Downey, Kevin McGettigan, Mark Toye and Michael Trearty were prominent in what was an excellent team effort. Despite trailing at half time, the boys kept their composure and deserved their victory which concludes their league campaign. In the second game those in attendance were treated to some high quality play with both teams creating and taking some very impressive scores. Two goals from Aaron Gallagher who was excellent throughout helped our boys to a hugely impressive victory with Bobby McGettigan and Mark Gallagher also finding the back of the net. Aaron Reid was once again superb and coaches James Cassidy and Paddy Gallagher can look forward to the Northern Board Finals Day with confidence that both teams will be difficult to beat. Keep up the great work and we are looking forward to the Finals Day which will more than likely be on the weekend of July 12th / 13th.
Our Minor boys put in a committed and accomplished display to account for a very physically strong Buncrana team also on Monday at The Burn Road. Despite trailing early on, a well taken penalty from Enda McCormick saw Termon take the lead that they held onto for 40 minutes despite a huge effort from the visitors. Shay McElwaines great save in the first half was a turning point and with PJ Friel, Conor O’Grady and Nathan McElwaine on top form, the visitors found scores hard to come by from the 20th minute onwards. Caolan Mellet and Stephen Doherty stuck at the task in hand and their second half contributions were an important piece of the jigsaw while James McSharry, Enda McCormick and Caolan McDaid were a constant threat up front. A second goal from Shane Doherty lifted the pressure late on and despite the kitchen sink been thrown, victory was secured with 5 points to spare. Well done lads, a very encouraging display from Bernard Gallaghers team.
Well done to the U8 boys and girls who travelled to Gweedore on Saturday last for their blitz. Thanks to the hosts for the great organisation and great refreshments and aging thankfully the focus was on acknowliging skills and not on the results. Our boys and girls acquitted themselves very well. Thanks again to David Brady, PJ Mc Fadden and Paddy Gallagher for their time and commitment to this cause.
On Friday evening our U6 boys and girls hosted their friends and neigbhours from Glenswilly in a series of games. On what was a beautiful evening the excitement on the faces was a joy to see, and that was only the parents! The enthusiasm and eagerness form the youngest of our clubs players was clear to be seen and all really seemed to enjoy their big day. Thanks to Paul Gallagher, Conal McGettigan and Aidan McGrenra for organising this and for making it clear that participation and not results was what was to be applauded. Thanks to all the parents who made the effort to be there and to help with the refreshments.
The U10 boys and girls are due to travel to Cloughaneely this weekend to play in their 4th blitz of the season, more details later in the week.
This year we will again host a GAA Cul camp with August 11th – 15th having been confirmed as our dates. Parents please pencil this in the Diary for your child. All boys and girls from 5 -13 are welcome to attend and it has proven a huge success in recent years. Cost is €55 for one child with reductions available for families. Children will receive coaching from members of the Donegal senior team and will also receive Cul camp rig and back pack. Anyone requiring any more information can contact coaching Officer Brian Trearty on 086 3406167.
Congratulation to the Donegal minor team on reaching this years Ulster final.
