St. Michael’s Parish League

The 22nd St Michael’s Parish League got underway in wintery conditions at the Bridge on Sunday last.

Spring decided not to attend but thankfully a large number of children and parents did brave the elements. Almost 100 children were in attendance ranging from the tiniest of 3 year old tiny tots to hardiest of 14 year old’s.

Bernie McGinley marshalled the 4 to 8 year old’s in the Clubhouse Hall to spare them the hailstones and he had a great deal of help from the parents present as he put them through their paces. The atmosphere and noise in the Hall was amazing, who would have thought that having 30 plus kids in a Hall would result in ear damaging noise levels!

Outside the 9 to 14 year old’s didn’t let the hail showers get the better of them. They were divided up into 4 groups, the Junior Girls and Boys and the Senior Girls and Boys. Each group was then taken by a pair of coaches and taken through training session focused on the fundamentals of the game. Finally 4 teams were picked and, despite the hailstones best efforts, 2 games were played where all the players could test out the skills they had learned.

The Parish League continues on Sunday the 8th at 2 o’clock sharp at the Bridge and will be over by 3.30. New players are always welcome and registration will be possible on Sunday.

The 4 to 8 year old’s will again be in the Hall with the 9 to 14’s on the Main pitch divided into 4 groups for coaching prior to a game.

The Parish League on March 8th will start promptly at 2 o’clock and finish at 3.30pm. Please be ready for the 2pm start. Gate duty Pauline Mullen and Grace Ann Kelly. Teas Mags McFadden, Emma Ryan and Sinead Shields. The Rota will be up on Facebook next week.

For further information or if you wish to volunteer in some capacity please contact Manus Friel on 087 6470532 or Annmarie Kelly on 087 9454107.
