Senior Men

The seniors had a fantastic victory over Urris in the first game of the championship. The lads knew exactly what they were up against having played them last week in the league and winning that one by a single point. Colm Melaugh opened the scoring with a fine effort from long range. Damien Brown added another two before Urris got on the scoreboard. Paul Byrne slotted another one after a great move from defence into attack. Damien was having a great game and added another three to his tally before Urris got another before the break. Half Time score was Red Hughs 0-7 Urris 0-2

The Clonmany men came out strong after the break and piled on the pressure and pegging the Reds back they scored three unanswered points to close the gap to two points. It was veteran PJ Gallagher who settled the nerves getting the Reds first score of the second half after ten minutes. The Urris lads were not giving up and were applying pressure all over the pitch. They once again cut the deficit to two points before Damien added another to the Reds score.Marty Bonner struck two fine points to settle the lads nerves. Another late rally from Urris seen them close the gap to two points but in truth the Cross lads never looked like losing this one. If they had taken all their chances the victory would have been a lot easier. But a win is a win no matter what the margin. Well done lads.

The reserves also had a great win in their game against Urris. It was never going to be easy having lost to Urris in the league last time out by 6 points. The first half was a very tight affair with both teams taking their chances well. There was only two points between them at the break Red Hughs 0-7 Urris 0-5
The Reds were a different team in the second half although it took the a while to settle. The youthfulness of the team was the driving force behind what was happening on the pitch with the young lads running at speed directly at the Urris defence. Marty Wilson got on the end of long ball and shot to the net. They Cross lads never looked back after that and ran out convincing winner. In fact the Clonmany failed to register a single score in the second half . A great display from the youthful defence. The final score was Red Hughs 1-12 Urris 0-5
