Intermediate Championship – Group 1*
CLG BnaG 0-7 Carndonagh 1-7
Na Galloglaigh were furious today with referee Don Langan as he controversially denied them a stonewall penalty in the 67th minute. Had it been awarded and converted it would have levelled the game up which would have ensured Na Galloglaigh progressed to the Quarter Finals. Instead the lads have crashed out of the Championship despite good draws against Buncrana and Naomh Columba. Ultimately the lads will have nobody to blame but themselves. Their performance was below par and things just didn’t go their way from the get go. Christopher McLaughlin and Ryan Kelly put Carn into a 2 point lead after 3 minutes before a colossal error in the BnaG defence gifted Carn a goal, a stray hand pass by a defender going straight to a Carn forward who fired home from 6 yards. Points from Christopher Barrett and Cathal Mc Gettigan got Na Galloglaigh on the scoreboard but they were guilty of missing too many of their opportunities. In fairness Carn pulled everyone back and crowded out the scoring zone making life difficult for the Na Galloglaigh forwards, however some of the wides were very scorable at times. There were 5 points in it at the break,1-4 to 0-2 and SP Barretts men needed a big second half performance to save their season. While the second half performance was improved, they were still guilty of kicking the game away. Basic errors were being punished as Na Galloglaigh became increasingly frustrated, Don Langan moving frees forward on several occasions. Joey Cullen was introduced for David Curley after 53 minutes and he had a great goal chance well saved by the Carn goalkeeper Ray Lennon soon after. Shortly after this Kane Barrett saw red for a high challenge on Carn centre half back Padraig Doherty, and then several minutes later Carn were also reduced to 14 men as Cathal O’Kane received a second yellow for not wearing a gum shield. These 2 events resulted in a lot of injury time, and in the 67th minute Joey Cullen was dragged to the ground by 3 Carn players but inexplicably the referee gave a wide ball, with even Carn players themselves counting their blessings and wondering how they got away with it. That decision summed up the day for Na Galloglaigh as simply nothing went their way, with the wide count being well into double figures not helping either. Team: Sean Gallagher, Kieran Sheridan (0-1), Sean Black, Gavin Grier, Tj Evesson, Conor McNulty (0-1), Manus Boyce, James Doyle, Luc O Bairead, Pauric Curley, Christopher Barrett (0-2), David Curley, Kane Barrett, Cathal McGettigan (0-2), Paddy Peoples. Subs: Enda McHugh for Boyce (44m), Joey Cullen for D. Curley (53m), Gary Merritt (0-1) for McGettigan, Jonny Logue, Cormac Friel, Caolan Mc Gettigan. Carndonagh: Ray Lennon, Michael McLaughlin, Conor Doherty, Danny Monagle, Micky Nelson, Padraig Doherty, Ryan Davenport, Cathal O’Kane, Dermot McGonigle, Fergal Doherty, Aaron McCarron, Gerard Doherty, Paddy McCallion, Ryan Kelly (1-1), Christopher McLaughlin (6, 6F). *U16 Ladies County Final*
CLG BnaG 3-11 Gaoth Dobhair 5-06
CLG BnaG started the livelier putting Gaoth Dobhair under enormous pressure from the off. Their good play was rewarded with scores from Lianne Boyce and Amy Toye leaving them with a lead of 1-03 to no score after just 8 minutes of play. Gaoth Dobhair finally got to grips with the game and landed their first score on 10 mins. On 14 minutes Aoife Donnelly engineered one of the scores of the game assisting Lianne Boyce who cooly slotted the ball over the bar. Gaoth Dobhair scored a goal on 18 minutes which really sparked them into to life. They mounted on their attack and only for some fine goalkeeping by Rachel Roarty the damage could have been worse during this period. It was end to end stuff with Na Galloglaigh being awarded a penalty on 22 mins as Amy Toye was knocked to the ground. Boyce narrowly pointed the spot kick. Toye could easily have had another penalty inside 2 minutes but the referee did not see the foul and allowed play to continue from which Gaoth Dobhair hurried up the pitch and rattled the net again. The 24th minute saw a key moment in the game when the Milford net minder was sin binned for a clash in which would see Roarty have to retire from the game with injury. Gaoth Dobhair fired home the penalty to see them lead for the first time. They hit a purple patch from here and contributed another goal and 2 points before the break with a 1 point reply from Boyce leaving the half time score at 1-06 to 3-03 in favour of the Gaoth Dobhair ladies. From the restart Gaoth Dobhair hit the first score but this was to be their only score until the 17th minute. Our girls powered forward with points from Shauna McBride and Rebecca Ryan. The 43th minute saw the biggest talking point of the game. Boyce pointed but the 2 Gaoth Dobhair Umpires waved it wide. The ball very clearly going inside the posts and while the referee overruled them, amid the arguments he appeared not to note this score. On the 44th minute Boyce superbly placed a free from 18 yards into the back of the net. McBride pointed again. Gaoth Dobhair replied with a well worked goal in the 52nd minute. From here on the Na Galloglaigh defence were in control with Roisin Docherty particularly standing out with some excellent interceptions and tackles. Aisling McHugh was quite harshly sin binned in the 54th minute for reacting to a very high tackle on her. Boyce pointed again in the 56th minute from play and Amy Toye added a wonderful goal in 58th minute. Boyce pointed twice again to leave us level by the ref’s score. Gaoth Dobhair had the last attack of the game with a calmly taken point. On the final whistle neither team reacted until the ref said Gaoth Dobhair had won by a point much to the confusion of the players, management, and supporters. Overall the girls showed great heart to come from 6 points down at half time. They dictated the play for large parts of the 2nd half. Best for BnaGG were Lianne Boyce who was involved in almost every attack, Aoife Donnelly worked exceptionally hard in the middle of the field, and Roisin Docherty who was solid in the full back line. Team: Rachel Roarty, Arlene Flood, Myia Nyham, Roisin Docherty, Maria Afxentious, Aisling Mchugh, Emma Mcgettigan, Aoife Donnelly, Niamh Gallagher, Amy Toye(1-01), Lianne Boyce(2-08), Claudia Ward, Nicole Curran, Rebecca Ryan(0-01), Shauna McBride(0-02). Subs: Saoirse Kelly, Bronagh Barrett, Rhianna Bolton, Rebecca Davis, Kerri Gallagher, Aoife McGee, Terri Ferry, Rachel Conaghan, Ciara O’Donnell, Ciara Murray, Aoife Mc Gettigan, Jenna McGroarty (for Roarty 34 mins), Bronagh Durning (for Curran 24 mins), Sinead Mccahill (for Afxentious Half time) Injured: Megan Nyham.

*U12 Girls Parish League Finals*
After 4 weeks of qualifying matches; the long awaited inaugural finals of the girls U12 Parish League took place last Friday evening at Moyle Park. The Semi-Final match between Megan Ryan’s team (managed by Mary McGinley) and Saoirse Kelly-Cullen’s team (managed by Tara Friel) was narrowly won by Megan’s team, with great scores from both teams, including Kirsty Dolan and Megan Ryan and Kelsey Mc Ateer and Saoirse Kelly-Cullen. The defences played a huge part in both teams with Anna Russell, Cliodhna McCotter-Kelly, Leah Afxentiou and Katelyn Hosford very strong for Megan’s team while Sarah Barrett, Millie Trearty and Emma Folen kept the back line very tight with Mary Barrett’s great ball-stopping skills and accurate kick-outs very effective for Saoirse’s team. The hand-passing skills from both teams was very impressive with Orla Mc Cleary, Beth Mc Fadden, Charlotte Davis and Kirsty Carr outstanding for Megan’s team while Aine Docherty and Mia Ferry were equally impressive for Saoirse’s team. After a short break, with the skies darkening, Megan’s team then faced the challenge of table-toppers Megann Ferry’s team (managed by Darren McAteer and Maia Nyhan). Megan Ryan herself was very impressive in this match but Aisling Mc Cormack also scored some very good points for Megann Ferry’s team to keep them in the match. The back line kept the scores down with Megann Ferry, Demi Hunter and Megan Mc Gettigan working very well together to get the ball out of defence. Danielle Kerr worked hard at midfield while Charlotte Claydon and Anna Mc Fadden displayed great ball handling skills in the forward line. A special mention must go to Aisling Patton Gallagher for her great net-minding skills. A big thank you to the referee, Caoimhe Barrett, who made sure the games ran smoothly and fairly, to all the managers for encouraging and leading their teams, to Anne-Marie Ferry and Anne Trearty who looked after the catering and to the parents and families who turned up to cheer the girls on. Overall the quality of football was of a high standard with good ball handling skills despite the wet conditions. There has been a great improvement in the girls’ skills over the past year, in particular those girls who only began playing Gaelic football earlier this year with the ‘Gaelic for Girls’ initiative and with a lot of these girls moving up to U14 level next year, the future is looking bright for girls’ Gaelic football in CLG Baile na nGalloglach.
