Kilcar Open with a win over Glenswilly

The Brian McCormick Sports League Division 1 began last week with St Michaels beating Milford at The Bridge. This weekend there were four fixtures with wins for Kilcar, Realt na Mara, St Michaels and St Eunans:

Kilcar 2-13 Glenswilly 2-8; Realt na Mara 2.19 Milford 4-8; St Eunans 2-16 Sean MacCumhaills 2-9; and St Michaels 1-11 Cloughaneely 0-13.

Our featured game was in Towney where Kilcar hosted Glenswilly

Cill Chartha         2-13        Glenswilly            2-08

Played in perfect conditions Cill Chartha picked up two valuable league points following a hard fought win over Glenswilly in front of a big crowd in Towney. Patrick McBrearty, making his first club appearance since April 15 last year, hit four first half points in the win and turned supplier for several second half scores. The hosts, who were without the injured Ryan McHugh, lead 0-08 to 1-02 at half time with Michael Murphy getting all the visitors scores. The goal came from the penalty spot after Murphy himself was fouled in the penalty area.

The second half started with a Eoin McHugh goal in the first minute, palming in an Ódhran Doogan pass when already through on goal. Two minutes later Glenswilly replied in kind with their second goal of the match – a good finish from Keelan McFadden. This began the visitors best spell of the game as they closed the gap to within two points midway through the half. However, that was close as it got as Matthew McClean goaled for the hosts and opened the gap back to five points. Glenswilly were denied goals on several occasions thanks to saves from Eamonn McGinley with one top class save in the dying minutes.
