Go raibh maith agat to all who made the Dunfanaghy Golf Classic a very enjoyable success last week

CLG Dhún na nGall and the senior squad are indebted to the Herculean efforts of Donegal’s Dublin-based supporters in raising funds for their training fund. In early June, a race-night was held at Leopardstown Racecourse by the Dublin Supporter’s branch and last Friday a very enjoyable Golf Classic was held at Dunfanaghy Golf Club, organised by Edward Boyle of the Supporter’s branch and the Ferriter family.. In the paragraphs below Joanne Dawson, Sean Ferriter and Edward Boyle thank all the sponsors and guests who combined to make this such a successful event but go raibh mile mile maith agaibh to Joanne, Sean and Edward themselves from all the Gaels of Donegal for their time, charisma and expertise in putting both events together and providing valuable finances to make days like yesterday in Croke Park and all of Donegal’s recent wins possible. A gallery of photos from the event can be found at the link below:

I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of myself, my father Sean Ferriter and Edward Boyle to thank everybody who contributed towards this hugely successful event at Dunfanaghy Golf Club.  We were very fortunate that so many individuals and businesses showed such great support in putting teams into the competition and also sponsoring the fantastic selection of prizes that we had on offer.  In particular, we would like to thank Cathal Jackson, of Copperfacejacks who came on board as our main sponsor.  Cathal’s generous sponsorship enabled us to put together a fantastic day of both golf and GAA.

Our special guest on the day was Tomás O’Sé, and what a gentleman he is.  After playing his round of golf he spent the afternoon chatting with everybody and posing for many photographs and finished off the day with a chat with our MC Charlie Collins about the big Super 8s clash between Kerry and Donegal in Croke Park.  We were also joined by a number of Donegal legends Eamon McGee, Neil Gallagher, Christy Toye and Martin McElhinney who gave their thoughts on the big game.

Alongside our main sponsor we had many other contributors who provided us with some fantastic prizes on the day and would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their generosity; The Galway Bay Resort, Cieran and Jacinta Kelly, Sean Clancy at Carton House, The River Forest Hotel Leixlip, Frank Casey Jnr at Rosapenna Golf Club, Johnny Connors of the Downings Bay Hotel, Kelco Communications, Mick McGinley of Sigma Wireless, Martin McHugh of MCM Spirits, Michael Murphy Sports & Leisure, Edward Boyle, Pauric MacShea, Brian McEniff, Stefan Kacperski of the FAI, The Harcourt Hotel, The Jackson Court Hotel, The Waterfront Hotel, Dungloe, The Shandon Hotel, Kinnegar Brewery and Eugene McGee.

Our team sponsors Sean Ferriter, Brendan Ferriter, Niall Dawson, Edward Boyle, Russell Court Hotel, McGill Construction, Peter Sullivan, Roarty Associates Ltd, Donall Barrett of MCR, The McColgan Family, Henry McCahey of DNG Boyce Gallagher, Mick McGinley Sigma Wireless, Noel McGinley of McGinley Motors, Marty Carlin, Michael Murphy Sports & Leisure, Joe Langan, Dr Jim McDaid, Sean McCormack, Clg Naomh Míchael, KN Group, James Sweeney of VP McMullin, Gerry McGreevey, Conal Keeney, Realt na Mara Bundoran, Na Rossa GAA, Peter McBride of McBride Fishing, Fr Brian Quinn, Seamus Byrne – Dubai and a number of mixed fourballs of individual entrants.

Also our Tee Box sponsors; Lizzies Diner/Oyster Bar, Kelly’s Toyota, McGinley Coach Travel, Pat “The Cope” Gallagher, Villa Rose & Jackson’s Hotel, Edward Boyle, Joe McHugh T.D., Arnold’s Hotel, Sigma Wireless, Morgan Ferriter, Laurence McGrath – New York, Modern Timberframe Homes, McDermott and Trearty Construction, Sean Ferriter, Kevin Cleary & Associates and The Shack.

We would also like to thank former Ryder Cup Winning Captain Paul McGinley and Michael Murphy who provided us with two of our main auction pieces on the night; A Framed 2018 Ryder Cup Pin Flag which was signed by the winning European Team and a 2019 US Open Special Edition Titleist Golf Bag.

Without the generosity of all the above sponsors the event simply would not have happened.

Finally we would like thank Dunfanaghy Golf Club, where Sean is currently President of the golf club, for hosting this event.  The bar staff, greens staff and committee in the golf club were hugely supportive of us both and did a fantastic job on day the to ensure everybody was catered for and well looked after.  The golf course was in pristine condition and we were blessed with a beautiful day weatherwise so playing conditions were excellent. Paddy McGlynn did a super job marking the cards and ensuring the teams were getting out as quickly as possible. 35 teams took part in the classic so the course was busy for the day.  The competition was close in the end with scoring in the first 9 teams very close.  The winning team on the day was the team sponsored by Dr Jim McDaid.

This event has been a huge success and will contribute greatly to the Donegal Senior Training Fund.

Many thanks for all the support shown.

Joanne Dawson, Sean Ferriter and Edward Boyle
