An Termon 11/03/2015 GAA Club Notes

By Sinéad Breen Donegal PRO Wed 11th Mar

The Club held the 2015 registration evening at An Craoibhín on Sunday 8th March. There was a great turnout, thanks to everyone who came along. We realise that not everyone could make it on Sunday, and so we will hold a final evening to allow anyone who missed Sunday’s registration the chance to register before the 31st March deadline. As already advised, we will not be able to register after 31st March, so if you would like to play with/be a member of our Club, Friday 20th March at the Craoibhin from 6.30 to 8.00 pm will be your chance to register. Adult membership of the Club is €40 for the year, and €80 for membership plus a yearly lotto. Senior player membership is €80 and student membership for over 18s is €60. Only fully registered players on the GAA registration system are allowed to take the field for, or train with, the club. If your name is not on this system, you are ineligible. That has repercussions in terms of insurance cover for injuries. Registration is an important component in meeting the running costs of the club each year, so we very much appreciate our members taking the time to register.

Awards

The Club received notification of three award nominations in the Donegal News Sports Awards this week, with the Senior Ladies being nominated for Team of the Year, Geraldine McLaughlin being nominated for Sports Personality of the Year, and the Club receiving a nomination for Club of the Year. The Award winners will be announced at a dinner in the Silver Tassie on Friday night.

Senior Men

Bhain an fhoireann sinsear in éadan Gaeil Fhánada ar an Satharn feidheartha i dTrí a Loch in éadan Gaeil Fhánada. Bhí tús maith ag na gasúraí, ach tháinig Gaeil Fhánad ar ais le cúl agus pointe chun an cluiche a chur ar chomhscór, agus ní raibh a dhath eatarthú nuair a shéid an réiteoir an fheadóg ag deireadh an chluiche. Is mar sin a chríochnaigh an chéad tréimhse d’am breise, ach sa dheireadh thiar thall bhí bua dhá phointe ag An Tearmann, agus leanann na gasúraí ar aghaidh go dtí an chéad bhabhta eile i gComórtas Pheil na Gaeltacha,ag imirt in éadan Gleann tSúilí ag a 1200 i bPáirc Naomh Columba, Gleann tSúilí Lá Fheile Pádraig.

The Seniors defeated Gaeil Fhánada on Saturday afternoon in a windswept Tri a Loch. After a promising lead, a Fanad goal and point levelled the match, and at the full time the teams were tied. It was all square at the end of the first half of extra-time, but the boys came away victors with a two point win to progress to the next round of the competition, when they will play Gleann tSúilí at 12 noon in Páirc Naomh Columba, Glenswilly on St Patrick’s Day.

Prior to the Gaeltacht game, the seniors will play a challenge game against Milford at 4pm on Saturday in Milford. Both teams are also provisionally down to travel to Killybegs to begin their Division 2 campaign on the weekend 21/22 March, though this fixture is subject to approval.

Minor Board notes in association with Kelly’s CENTRA

A huge thanks to everyone who attended our Registration evening on Sunday in An Craoibhin. Already we have 135 children, committed to play for our club this year. It looks like it could be a

record year in terms of participation at Minor Board level something which gives coaches and administrators a huge boost. Thanks again for your support and thanks to everyone who helped on the on Sunday with the heavy workload. With many parents sending messages to say they were unable to attend on Sunday, there will be one final registration evening possibly on Friday week, March 20th from 6.30 to 8.00 pm at The Craoibhín.

Special thanks to Mairtin Kelly who came along to launch the 2 year sponsorship partnership between Kellys Centra and our Minor Board. Our U12s will be the first beneficiaries of this partnership with new jerseys already having been ordered for them. We intend that all our boys from U12 – U16 will have Termon shorts and socks for all games in the 2015 Season again with the support of Kellys Centra, parents / players can purchase these at a greatly reduced rate. Coaches will be taking orders over the next few weeks so that these will be available for the start of the playing season or orders can be placed with Eddie at 086 6082512.

U12 boys coaching will continue this weekend, with details to be sent to parents later in the week. These boys have been invited to attend the Harry Cassidy memorial tournament in Buncrana on the 28th of March. Any boys hoping to play in this tournament need to be attending the weekly coaching if possible.

The Termon N.S. boys indoor Gaelic team qualified for the County Final on Friday last only to be defeated by a strong Buncrana team in an exciting final. Well done boys on reaching your first County final.

It was to the frustration of players and Coaches alike that the scheduled Minor game Vs Cloughaneely was cancelled on Sunday morning. Hopefully these boys will get back in league action with games fixed against Gaoth Dobhair this Saturday and against St Michaels on St Patrick’s Day. Reminder only players who have registered will be insured to play.

The U16s training is moving up in the gears with the first league game only 2 weeks away. It is hoped to get a challenge game in the next week or so and details will be given at coaching. Again only boys who have paid their registration will be eligible to play.

We are seeking a Lotto seller in the Kilmacrennan town area from our minor board ranks. If your child would be interested in making some pocket money on a weekly basis and helping us raise some much needed funds at the same time then please contact any minor board member.

Ladies

Well done to the ladies who recorded a victory in their opening league game of the year against Milford on Sunday last. The juniors were defeated by Robert Emmets. The seniors have a non-county league game v St Eunans away on Sunday morning.

Congratulations to Emer Gallagher who has been named Captain of the U21 Donegal Ladies’ panel for the coming season. Emer captained the Donegal Minor ladies to an Ulster final in 2012, not to mention wearing the number 3 jersey for our All-Ireland winning ladies.

Good luck to Donegal senior ladies and u16 Donegal girls on their double bill games on Sunday from 1pm

Bag Pack in Dunnes Stores

We are delighted to have been given permission to carry out a bag pack on the morning of Good Friday in the new Dunnes Stores. We will cover from 10-2.30, so could you save the date, and hopefully set aside two hours to help out with this annual fundraiser on Good Friday.

Pitch

Termon GAA pitch is closed until further notice due to the recent inclement weather conditions. We realise this may cause some problems for teams with regards to training, but it’s important to remember that this is the only surface the club has to train and play our matches on and must be kept playable for as long as possible to accommodate all our teams. Work is currently underway to develop a training area and anyone interested in assisting in this effort is asked to contact Development Officer Brian Trearty on 0863406167.

Lotto

There was no winner of last week’s lotto jackpot. Match 3 winner was Danny O’Donnell, and Bernie O’Toole and Shane Callaghan were open draw winners. Next week’s draw is in The Glenveagh Inn.

The Senior Men are responsible for the Bingo Lotto for the month of March.

Can the lotto coordinators for each week please send the results to the PRO for inclusion in the notes by Monday evening at the latest. They can either be sent by text to 0860858109, or by e-mail to clgantearmainn@live.ie.
