Tús maith, leath na h-oibre as Donegal start Allianz League with one point victory over Kerry

Tús maith, leath na h-oibre said Paddy Carr, Bainisteoir CLG Dhún na nGall’s after his team recovered from six points behind coming up to half-time to defeat the All-Ireland champions Kerry 0-13 to 1-9. Donegal gambled on youth and while it looked to be backfiring early on three of the Allianz league debutants – Johnny McGroddy, Luke MCGlynn and Caolan McColgan – getting on the scoresheet, the latter racking up three points and awarded Man of the Match. However, it was the experience, and cultured left peg, of Paddy McBrearty that came up trumps in the fourth minute of added time lofting the ball over the bar for the winning score.

Donegal made a nervous start with loose passing and getting caught in possession a feature early on and leading to 1-3 of Kerry’s first half tally. Donegal, however, kept scoreless fifteen minutes each side of half-time and hit seven points in succession to take the lead for the first time since the early minutes. It was score for score thereafter, Donegal never conceding the lead and Kerry scoring three equalisers before the captain’s late, late winner.
