Comhghairdeas CLG Beart – Grand Canal u21 Hurling Champions

Congratulations to Burt – winners of the 2022 Grand Canal Hotel U21 Hurling Championship with a 2-11 to 2-6 victory over Setanta on their home turf of Hibernian Park yesterday. Originally scheduled for O’Donnell Park, the venue and throw-in time were shifted.

Burt began with the breeze in their backs dominating the first 20 minutes with 4 points from Liam Óg McKinney, who would score 10 of Burt’s 11 points, and one from Conor Gartland before Oisin Marley got Setanta on the scoreboard. A Ryan Coyle goal and Ruari Campbell goal teed up a competitive second half with the teams going in at half-time with Burt leading by 0-8 to 1-2.

Less than a minute into the second period Paddy Curran goaled to put six points between the teams but soon after Ryan Coyle got his second three-pinter to bring the margin back to three 1-8 to 2-2. Crucially, however, Burt reacted best and any momentum Setanta my have got was stunted by a McKinney point and Paddy Curran’s second goal. Thereafter, it was Burt’s game to lose and with red cards seeing Setanta reduce to 13 and Burt to 14 the managed the remainder of the game to ease to their first Donegal u21A championship.
