It is five years since Donegal clubs last hoisted Ulster club championships with both Gaoth Dobhair and Red Hughs triumphing in 2018. Setanta carry the county’s hopes into the Junior Hurling final tomorrow in Celtic Park, Derry as part of double-header which also sees Dungloe strive to follow Setanta’s footsteps as they play their Intermediate semi-final against Tyrone side Galbally.
Setanta play Shane Uí Néill in the final and the Glenarm side have an impressive run to the final with comfortable wins against Monaghan champions Carrikcmacross in their quarterfinal, scoring 4-27 and Sean Treacy’s of Armagh in the semi where they ran out 1-20 to 0-12 winners. Setanta had to battle in their opening game, trailing by a goal at half time in their quarterfinal against Dungannon Eoghan Rua but coming good in a thrilling second half to win 1-16 to 2-11. It was far from easy either against Derry title-holder’s Na Magha in Healy Park as Setanta came out on the right side of a 2-20 to 1-16 scoreline.
Na Magha were Setanta’s opponents back in November 2017 when they last lifted this title with a 2-17 to 3-11 win in Ballybofey. Good luck to them on Sunday, throw-in at 1.45. No cash will be taken at the gate and tickets must be purchased in advance.
