Here are a few pictures from today’s opening of the Donegal GAA Centre in Convoy. A proud day for CLG Dhún na nGall and the culmination of over 15 years of work with this excellent centre currently boasting 5 pitches, three of them floodlit, and a facilities building with auditorium, 200 seat stand, canteen and dining hall, boardroom and breakout area and six dressing rooms. While a lot has been done there are plans for more, including a hurling wall, sports hall and further work on the car park and pitch 1. The cost of work to date of €6.6 mn is almost fully funded with the additional planned works – Phase 4 of the project – estimated to cost another €1.2 mn.
The opening was attended by representatives from most of Donegal’s 40 clubs without whose financial and in-kind contributions the Centre would not have been built. Also attending were representatives of the LFGA, Donegal County Council, our sponsors, past and present members of the County Board, Donegal TDs and Senators, All-Ireland winning captains Anthony and Michael and by special guests Jack Chambers the Minister for Sport, GAA President Larry McCarthy and Ceiran McLaughlin the President of the Ulster Council. The Sports Capital Fund and GAA grants to the tune of over €2 mn were also essential to funding the Centre..
