A new series on TG4 commenced on September the 14th telling the story of a wide selection of GAA trophies of all shapes and sizes for all age ranges from u-10 tournaments to All Ireland Senior Championship. It explores the stories behind these trophies and heroes they are dedicated to. It will be presented by Gráinne McElwaine – seen in the cover photograph with Radio na Gaeltachta’s Damien Ó’Donaill and the Rann na Feirste trophy.
Gráinne is travelling across Ireland visiting clubs and county grounds, learning the lesser-known stories behind our nation’s trophies. This week the programme visits Donegal Donegal is better known today as a football stronghold, but Gráinne discovers the northwest has historical links to both hurling and camogie. She finds out about a much-loved priest who has three cups named in his honour and before visiting county home grounds Páirc Sheáin Mhic Cumhaill, to learn about The Democrat Cup and the importance local newspapers played in Donegal’s sporting tradition.
Scealta na gCorn in Donegal runs on Wednesdays October 5th on TG4 at 8:30 pm.
