Realt na Mara will play in the Michael Murphy Sports and Leisure Intermediate championship next season following a four point loss to Naomh Naille in Tirconaill Park. Nauls led 0-8 to 0-4 at the break having taken advantage of an extra man in the last ten minutes of the half to hit four without reply.
The third quarter was largely dominated by Nauls with three points without reply. Realt did have an opportunity turn the tide on 15 minutes but a super save by Gavin Mulreaney turned a Jamie Brennan shot on to the post and a couple of minutes later Gary Clancy hit the bar from a close range free. Nauls re-asserted control and never looked in danger of being overhauled thereafter. Clancy reprised his free kick routine in the fortieth minute, this time hitting the net, but the goal was too little and too late.
The ten minutes extra time arose out of two breaks in play the first a head on collision between Realt’s Oisin Walsh and Timmy Govorov with the former later taken to hospital by ambulance and what looked like a bad ankle injury for Nauls’s Barry Griffen who was stretchered off. We wish them both a speedy recovery.
