Donegal’s ladies’ and mens’ teams play Galway this Sunday in a duo of matches that will be pivotal in their Allianz league placings. Having opened with a hard-earned home victory over Monaghan, who went on to defeat Tyrone yesterday, Galway came very close to beating Kerry in Tralee last weekend. A late flurry of Kerry scores, reminiscent of Mayo’s late heist in Ballybofey secured victory for The Kingdome but the Tribesmens’ stock has risen and they are now seen one of the key 2020 challengers to Dublin’s dominance. Donegal are also in fine fettle after a satisfying performance over Meath, weathering an early Meath flurry before running out comfortable 0-7 to 3-8 winners. Victory for either team will leave them well placed to push on for the shake-up for a Croke Park appearance on March 29th.
The Ladies too had a good weekend. They were the beneficiaries of a late rally – winning 1-11 to 2-10 – that secured two valuable league points in Waterford following their dis-appointing performance in Mayo the previous week. Galway lost at home to Waterford in their opening league fixture despite scoring 16 times to Waterford’s 9 but goals win games and Waterford got five of them on a 1-15 to 5-4 score-line. Galway bounced back last weekend, however, scoring 5-11 in Mullingar with the home side Westmeath hitting just 0-7. It looks like being a close encounter.
