The County Awards Banquet is this coming Saturday, November 23rd in the Abbey Hotel Donegal town. The list of those honoured (see below) was published last week with the exception of the receipient of Gradam Sheamuis Mhic Géidigh Donegal player of the championship. Radio na nGaeltachta confirmed today that 24 year old Naomh Conaill mid-fielder and county star, and a man who has continued to shine very brightly in their Ulster campaign, Ciarán Thompson, has been honoured with this award. Ciaran is currently studying in Letterkenny IT, where he’s in the final year of a degree in Sport and Exercise Performance. Delighted to receive the award Ciaran thanked his teamates, coaches and management in Naomh Conaill.
Bronntar Gradam Shéamuis Mhic Géidigh gach bliain ar imreoir na craoibhe i nDún na nGall. Tá coiste de 12 duine, iriseoirí spóirt Dhún na nGall, a dhéanann an rogha, agus is é Damien Ó Dónaill ó RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta a bhíonn i mbun cathaoirleachta ar an gcoiste. Dúirt Damien Ó Dónaill, ar Bharrscéalta ar RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta: “Roghnaíodh Ciarán mar gheall a chuid taispeántais ag deireadh na craoibhe i mbliana. B’éigean an cluiche ceannais a imirt trí huaire le Naomh Conaill agus Gaoth Dobhair a scarúint óna chéile, agus bhí ceannródaíocht Chaiptín Naomh Conaill, Ciarán Thompson, lárnach ina mbua ag deireadh. Sár-imreoir é Thompson, atá ag forbairt bliain i ndiaidh bliana, agus é ábalta scóranna inspioráideacha a aimsiú lena chos chlé nuair is gá. Is imreoir lár-páirce do Naomh Conaill é a dhéanann obair na gcapall daofa, agus tá gradam na bliana seo tuillte go maith aige.”
Cailleadh an craoltóir Séamus Mac Géidigh sa bhliain 2016, fear a raibh aithne faoi leith air as feabhas a chuid tráchtaireachta ar chluichí CLG. Thionscain RTÉ RnaG an gradam seo ina onóir. Go dtí seo, bronnadh an gradam ar Michael Murphy, Mark McHugh, agus ar Odhrán Mac Niallais.
Is é an dealbhóir Redmond Herrity a chruthaigh an gradam as Cloch Éibhir Dhún na nGall i gcruth an Earagail, le pictiúr Sheámuis Mhic Géidigh greanta chun tosaigh air.
The County Awards night and Banquet is being held by CLG Dhún na nGall in conjunction with the Donegal Ladies County Board. The Donegal Senior squad, Ulster and Division 2 Champions, and the Donegal Senior Ladies, Ulster Champions 2019, will be honoured, as will retiring 2012 All-Ireland winners David Walsh and Frank McGlynn.
