Tomorrow, Donegal Senior Champions Naomh Conaill will strive to emulate the example of Gaoth Dobhair last year and bring another Ulster Club Championship back to Donegal. The battle begins tomorrow afternoon at 2.30 in Kingspan Breffni Park. It will not be easy.
The three match marathon with Gaoth Dobhair will have brought the the team on but the effort expended to become Donegal champions will have exerted a physical toll. Castlerahan will be serious opponents having also been Cavan Senior champions in 2018 and playing in their familiar surrounds of Breffni Park. Naomh Conaill are tough never-say-die competitors, as fancied Gaoth Dobhair and St Eunans teams can attest.
Among the interested spectators there will quite likely be a contingent that have made the short journey from Clontibret. The Monaghan side, having accounted for seasoned ulster competitors Crossmaglen Rangers and Scotstown in their last two games will provide stern opposition to either Naomh Conaill or Castlerahan in the semi-final. Hopefully, it will be notes on the Thompson boys and the rest of the Naomh Conaill contingent the Clontibret management will be analysing next week and we wish our Donegal champions the best of luck tomorrow.
On another matter there has been a lot of speculation about Naomh Conaill’s last point. A video of the winning score with “very” slow-motion shots added would appear to show very conclusively that the ball blocks out the post before going over the bar. A great call by the umpires and the match referee. Check it out on the Adults tab of www.DonegalGAA.ie
