Team of the Decade – Have your say – Public voting closes in eight days

By Sinéad Breen Donegal PRO Mon 21st Oct

Around 700 entries have come in, as of today, for the Donegal Team of the Decade, equivalent to over 10,000 nominations. Public voting closes in just over a week but there are 7 to 12 players already looking very likely to be in the team voted for by the public with another ten or so scrambling for the last three places. Seven players have more than 600 nominations and a further five have more than 400.

There are a total of 45 Donegal players who have played championship football for Donegal over the ten years 2010 to 2019. Over half of these already look out of the running having achieved less than 100 nominations so far, unless one or more of them find favour with all of our expert judges. The public vote accounts for 50% of the total vote in deciding the team with 10% going to each of our celebrity judges, Anthony Molloy, Brian McEniff, Cahair O’Kane, Jason Quigley and Oisin McConville.

With voting closing in eight days, on October 29th, its time to get voting if you have not already had your say. Its very simple – log into DonegalGAA.ie on any mobile device, hit the vote button and pick fifteen players, preferably a goalkeeper, six defenders two midfielders and six forwards.

The team chosen will be revealed in the forthcoming Donegal Yearbook, which will be available at the end of November. Each of the experts have also agreed to publication of their choices and the results of the public vote will also be made known, but not until after Yearbook publication.

A hurling team of the decade and a Ladies team of the decade are being organised independently by the Hurling Board and by the Donegal LGFA.
