Ardara’s win against Four Masters in Donegal town this afternoon confirmed them as Division 2 champions, after their closest rivals Na Cealla Beaga lost to Aodh Ruadh in Beal Átha Seanaigh. While the overall winners are decided, Killybeg’s loss has tightened the race for the second promotion spot. Our picture shows happy Ardara players leaving the pitch at Tir Conaill Park earlier today.
Fri, 16 Aug
Dungloe 1-18 Buncrana 0-11
Sun, 18 Aug,
Aodh Ruadh Béal Átha Seanaigh 1-14 Na Cealla Beaga 1-10
Dungloe 2-8 St Nauls 0-9
Four Masters 1-3 Ardara 0-16
Naomh Columba 1-18 Buncrana 0-11
Termon 3-10 Glenfin 0-10
Aodh Ruadh lead on points difference from Na Cealla Beaga and Naomh Naille and what was a very tough run-in for the Ballyshannon side including a home tie against Ardara on the final day may have got a little easier if the Division 2 champions slacken off to avoid injuries before championship the following week. Before that, however, there is a crunch tie against Naomh Naille in Mountcharles next Sunday. Naul’s final game is away to Naomh Columba who would hope to be safe from relegation by then while Killybegs finish with games against Naomh Columba (H) and Termon (A). With their rivals facing each other next Sunday Na Cealla Beaga are slight favourites to progress.
