June 30 – Brian McCormick Sports & Leisure Division 1 – Wins for Cill Chartha, Cloich Cheann Fhaola and Naomh Conaill
Kilcar maintained their unbeaten record with a comfortable victory in Gaelic Park, Bundoran, Cloughaneely picked up vital league points in their relegation four-pointer with MacCumhaills and Naomh Conaill came from behind for a narrow win over Milford at Moyle Park.
Realt na Mara 1-13 Cill Chartha 3-16
Sean Mac Cumhaills 0-16 Cloich Cheann Fhaola 1-15
Baile na nGalloglach 1-9 Naomh Conaill 1-11
Realt na Mara were well beaten by Kilcar with midfielders Mark McHugh and Ciaran McGinly contriubuting all of the Kilcar goals and Matthew McClean pitching in with eight points. Timmy Govorov hit the Realt goal. These teams meet again at this venue in the Championship but the line-ups will be much changed with five county players being welcomed back, while Stephen McBrearty was also missing for Kilcar today and neither Cian nor Michael McEniff lined out for Realt na Mara.
There was never much between Sean MacCumhaills and Cloughaneely in the first half with the sides mostly matching each other score for score and going in at the break with 0-7 apiece. The second half looked set for the same pattern with an early exchange of points but a Ciaran McGeady goal after five minutes put daylight between the sides for the first time and Cloughaneely kicked on leading by seven points as the game entered the last ten minutes. While the home side ended the strongest Cloughaneely had enough of a cushion to take two vital league points.
At Moyle Park, Milford looked in pole position as the first half drew to a close having held Naomh Conaill scoreless and scoring 1-5 themselves, the goal coming from Cathal McGettigan. The visitors got off the mark in added time with a Charles McGuinness goal quickly followed by a point to leave it 1-5 to 1-1 at the break. Naomh Conaill dominated the early exchanges in the second half to reel Milford in and showed their experience in the final minutes scoring the last three points of the game for a hard fought but important win that keeps them in touch with Kilcar at the top of the table.
Kilcar remain three points clear of Naomh Conaill, their nearest challenger, while four points separate the bottom five teams from Realt na Mara on 8 to Milford and Sean MacCumhaill each on 4.
