The last decade has been one of unprecedented success for CLG Dhún na nGall with nine Ulster final appearances, two All-Ireland finals, five Ulster title wins, one All Ireland Championship, the Nicky Rackard Cup and two National League titles. Keeping Donegal at the top will prove increasingly difficult unless the County is able to match its neighbours in Ulster, never mind the rest of Ireland, in developing young talent and honing our senior players to be the best that they can be. The County Board’s ambitious plans to develop the Centre of Excellence at Convoy to facilitate this is on-going but is a costly exercise and one where available finance is constantly chasing the rapidly rising costs as the final stages of Phase 1 construction race on. Contract works at end-June were 75% completed.
To help with the ongoing funding gap, Team Donegal London have organised a fundraiser for the Centre of Excellence. It takes place next Thursday, July 4th, in the Clayton Hotel. The sports-themed lunch, which will be compere’d by the incomparable Sean Perry with top comic Aiden Tierney providing entertainment, costs €200 per head. Special guests will include former Ireland and Munster manager, currently manager of London Irish, Declan Kidney and Donegal GAA legends, Tony Boyle, Anthony Molloy and Brendan Devenney as well as current Donegal footballers.
Inquiries should be sent to TeamDonegalLondon@gmail.com or to Tom Mohan (+0044 (0) 7710307137) or Joe McInern (+0044 (0) 7956103723) or follow the Facebook page “Team Donegal London”.
