With one notable exception it was a disappointing afternoon for Donegal representatives at Feile. All of the Tír Conaill boys’ teams qualified for the premier “Cup” competition. Two clubs, Four Masters and Na Cealla Beaga were unbeaten at the Group stage and Aodh Ruadh and Glenfin both won two and lost one.
Unfortunately, three of our four clubs lost out at the quarter-final stage. Four Masters, however, proudly march on. Playing in the highly competitive Division 2 tier they won this morning’s Group game quite convincingly against Ballinasloe before edging out Meath County Champions Senchalstown in a tightly fought encounter that ended 1-5 to 1-2. They now face the daunting task of beating Mayo flag-bearers Castlebar Mitchels in the Division 2 semi-final tomorrow at the Connacht GAA Centre. Throw-in is expected to be at 1.00 pm but this is subject to confirmation.
Aodh Ruadh in Division 6 were well beaten in their quarterfinal by Éire Óg, while Faughanvale were also comfortable against Glenfin in Division 9. For Na Cealla Beaga it was a much closer affair but they lost out by the odd goal scoring 3-6 to Aylmer Gaels 4-6 in Division 13. Our Ladies’ representatives, An Clochán Liath, played at a very high level – in Division 3 – but they also bowed out at the Shield quarterfinal stage, losing 2-2 to 0-5 to Loughrea.
Comhghairdeas to the four young teams whose journey ended today. All can be proud for getting to Feile Peile 2019 in the first place and all of them done their clubs and counties proud and the best of luck to Four Masters tomorrow.
