Gaoth Dobhair had too much for neighbours Cloich Cheann Fhaola at Machaire Gathlán running out 3-13 to 2-8 winners. By the end of the first quarter the home team were a comfortable 1-6 to 1-1 to the good and had moved out to 1-11 to 1-3 before Cloughaneely had their best spell of the match, reeling off four points in succession. Gaoth Dobhair regrouped hitting two goals to end any hope for the visitors.
The other two games in Division 1 were both crackers. MacCumhaills got a dream start quickly hitting 1-1, Jamie Keegan the goal-scorer. Naomh Conaill soon settled and approaching the break had turned the tie around to lead 1-6 to 1-3, their goal scored by Nathan Byrne. MacCumhaills though ended the half as they started it with 1-1, Gary Wilson scoring the three-pointer. HT 1-6 to 2-4. The third quarter saw MacCumhaills pull further ahead leading 3-7 to 1-8 at the end of the third quarter. Naomh Conaill are second in Division 1 and their response showed why, closing the deficit to leave the score level entering the final few minutes. MacCumhaills, however, finished the stronger with Darren O’Leary scores securing two vital league points.
In Towney, for the second game in succession the home side had a late Mark McHugh score to thank for rescuing a league point. While the home side lost their 100% record, their unbeaten record remains intact. An early Ciaran McGinely goal gave Kilcar an ideal start and while a Rory Carr three-pointer leveled matters at 1-4 apiece after 20 minutes, the home side moved up a gear to lead 1-8 to 1-5 at the break. Within a minute of the restart, last week’s hat-trick hero Eoin McGeehin was at it again to level matters and St Eunans dominated the next 20 minutes, moving into a 5 point lead at one stage and by two as the game moved into additional time.
With 10 games played Kilcar top the table with 19 points, followed by Naomh Conaill on 16 and Gaoth Dobhair on 14. Sean MacCumhaills have moved off the bottom on points difference – along with Baile na nGalloglach and Cloich Cheann Fhaola they have four league points with the Cloughaneely side having played a game less.
In the Reserve fixtures there were wins for Gaoth Dobhair, Naomh Conaill and Naomh Ádhmhnáin.
