Four of the five scheduled fixtures in the Marley Travel Division 2 All County league were played over the weekend – the game between Naomh Naille and Na Cealla Beaga was postponed:
Gleann Fhinne 2-15 Bun Cranncha 2-9
An Clochán Liath 2-15 Aodh Ruadh BÁS 3-7
An Tearmainn 2-13 Na Ceitre Maistrí 2-9
Naomh Columba 1-5 Ard an Ratha 4-16
Ardara comprehensively turned the tables on an out-of-sorts Naomh Columba. The resurgent Glen side won their third game on the trot in Pearse Memorial last week but goals from Lorcan O’Donnell and Jack Brennan had this game more or less sown up by half-time at Páirc na nGael where the visitors led by 2-7 to 0-3 at the break. A goal for Michael Maguire ten minutes into the second half was a consolation score as Ardara had already secured their third and were well on the way to a comprehensive victory.
Buncrana’s dismal season continued at Páirc Taobhoige where they lost by six points to Glenfin. Glenfin led 0-9 to 0-4 at half-time and pushed on early in the second half to widen the gap with a Ronan Carlin goal and Buncrana were reduced to 14 when Neil McLaughlin was yellow carded for the second time. Buncrana regrouped to close the margin to four points, helped by a John Campbell goal, but that was as close as they got as substitute Daití Carr’s goal helped Glenfin pulled away. A late Aedan Stoke’s goal for the visitors put a better gloss on the scoreline.
There were only four points between Termon and Four Masters at the Burn Road but the home side were well in control throughout the second half – Four Master’s second goal was a consolation, netted late in the game by Jamie Crawford. Caolan McDaid and David Conaghan were the goalscorers for Termon, John Boyle got Four Master’s first goal and Daire McDaid contributed nine of the home side’s points. The first half had been a tight affair with just a point between the sides at the break.
Aodh Ruadh led this game for much of the first half, after Phillip Patton converted an early penalty, but a strong finish saw the home side go in 2-7 to 2-4 ahead at the break. While Dungloe started the second half brightly Shane McGrath’s second goal (and Aodh Ruadh’s third), and a Cian Dolan free shortly after, reduced the gap to the minimum but this was as close as it got as An Clochán Liath took control and closed out the game. Adam Neely and Conor Green, both scoring 1-5, were the key men for An Clochán Liath with Cory Gallagher also contributing 0-3.
Ardara, now with a game in hand have passed out Na Cealla Beaga at the top of Division 2, while Gleann Fhinnem Aodh Ruadh and Naomh Naille all remain in touching distance. Buncrana with just two points from eight games are anchored to the bottom of the table.
