Last weekend saw three games played in Marley Travel Division 2 with wins for Gleann Fhinne, Naomh Columba and Aodh Ruadh BES.
Glenfin 2-15 Killybegs 1-7
Termon 0-11 Naomh Columba 1-11
Na Ceithre Maistrí 0-9 Aodh Ruadh 4-9
There were handy wins for Glenfin and Aodh Ruadh with not a lot of drama in either match. It was a different story at the Burn Road where Naomh Columba continued their excellent run of form with a hard-won two league points despite a very spirited comeback from the home side. In the end it was an opportunistic Paddy Byrne goal that separated the sides. Aided by the breeze in the first half the visitors were well ahead 1-10 to 0-5 going into the last quarter of the game but Termon came roaring back. Six points on the bounce left it 0-11 to 1-10 but all the home side’s good work was undone as they ended the game with 13 men and Ryan McNern floated over the last point of the game for Naomh Columba to halt the Termon comeback.
Killybegs slumped to their second defeat in a row in Glenfin but still remain in second place in the table having won their first six games. The victories for Aodh Ruadh and Glenfin will send out markers that they both intend to be in the shake-up for what is developing into a tight race for promotion back to the top tier with Naomh Columba’s recent run of form also putting them back in the running. At the wrong end of the table, Four Masters would need to soon emulate Naomh Columba’s recent revival if they are not to find themselves caught up in a relegation dogfight as the season progresses.
