Carndonagh 6-8
Aodh Ruadh 5-4
Carndonagh picked up the Under 14 A league trophy with a hard-fought victory over Aodh Ruadh, Ballyshannon on a scoreline of 6-8 to 5-4 in Foden. It was a cracking match filled with hard tackling, great skills and incredible bravery from both teams in a great battle on a perfect evening for hurling. Carn were the favourites having won all 9 of their league matches but were rocked back on their heels when Ballyshannon opened the scoring with a scrambled goal inside the first 3 minutes but Carn struck straight back with a goal and a point by Davin McLaughlin followed by a further goals by Cormac McGinn and 2 by Jamie Doherty (T). Points form Phillip Devlin and Danny Diver had Carn in a comfortable 4-4 to 1-1 lead midway through the half. Aodh Ruadh roared back into the game, with their midfield getting on top and 2 quick goals left the half time score at 4-5 to 3-2 in favour of Carn.
The 2nd half started with neither team on top and points were exchanged with Carn maintaining their 6 point lead, then Aodh Ruadh struck with a brilliant close range free to the roof of the net, leaving just 3 points between the teams. The game was in the melting pot and Carn needed to step up and they did in style and goals from Sean O’Carroll and Danny Diver and a free from Danny for a point and from Cormac McGinn from play left Carndonagh 10 up with 10 minutes remaining. Aodh Ruadh were not going down with a fight and struck for another goal and only for the fantastic play of the full-back line and Brendan O’Carroll in the goals stopped Ballyshannon from further eating into the lead. The last 2 minutes had Aodh Ruadh on all out attack but they could not breach the Carn backline.
