Bun Cranncha 2-6
Played in perfect hurling conditions at Hiberian Park, Beart, fierce hurling rivals St Eunan’s and Buncrana met in the Minor 2019 League final. With both teams, having defeated each other in the early rounds this was a game that could have gone either way.
St Eunan’s started well with Paul O’Donnell and Gavin Forde scoring a series of fine points while at the other end Buncrana chalked up a number of wides. St Eunans quickly raced out to an 8-point lead. Buncrana responded with a quick goal and a point. The tempo increased as both teams tackled hard trying to create scoring opportunities. Halftime came with St Eunan’s ahead by 5 points.
Eunan’s started the second half with a point but then Buncrana took over with a move, which went the length of the pitch to hit the back of the Eunan’s net. With Buncrana’s midfield dominating, they drew level and then took the lead as their shooting accuracy improved. Paul O’Donnell and Peter Kelly then restored the Eunan’s lead and with minutes to go Buncrana went in search of the necessary goal. A late Buncrana free, which was dropped short into the St Eunan’s square, was cleared with great difficulty and the final whistle went. St Eunan’s Captain Kealan Barrett received the Cup from Hurling Chairperson Manus O’Donnell expressing relief at the victory and thanking Buncrana for a stern competitive challenge, Burt for the facilities, Referee Hugo Wallace and the Eunan’s Management team.
