In the Electric Ireland Ulster Minor Quarterfinal in Kingspan Breffni Park, Cavan were first on the scoreboard but it was the only time they led Donegal – the visitors hit six points on the trot before Cavan scored again. A goal early in the second quarter got Cavan to within a point, at 1-3 to 0-7, but they were behind by two at the break, 1-5 to 0-10. They also went down to 14 men on the stroke of half-time with the red-carding of full-back Peter Smith.
Again Cavan were sharpest from the throw-in with an early score to leave it a one point game again but just like the first half Donegal quickly took over. As in Ballybofey last week against Armagh, Shane Monaghan came off the bench and found the net late in the game, sealing victory for the Donegal boys. The game was effectively over – with Donegal leading by 1-18 to 1-7 – when Cavan got their second, consolation, goal in the third minute of added time.
