Naomh Colmcille played some superb football to record an eleven point win over Downings at Páirc Colmcille today in the Yes Chef Division 3 clash. The result leaves them on maximum points from two games. Aided by a very strong breeze in the first half the home side opened up a 7 point lead at half time and a stirring 2nd half full of controlled and committed football saw them run out comfortable winners.
A fast start for the home side saw them 0-5 to no score ahead after 10 minutes with points from Oran Hilley and a couple each from Michael Lynch and Daniel Clark. It was the 16th minute before Downings raised a white flag as Lorcan Connor pointed 2 close range frees in successive minutes. Naomh Colmcille were in the ascendency in the middle of the field with Daniel Clarke and Michael Lynch pulling the strings and further scores from William Lynch, a couple from Clarke and a super effort by Oran Hilley from the right touchline in the 27th minute left the home side 0-9 to 0-3 – Eric Roberts having replied for Downings. Lorcan Connor tagged on another free for Downings before Daniel Clarke with a free and a superb long range effort on the stroke of half time left Naomh Colmcille 0-11 to 0-4 up at the break.
Despite playing into a strong wind, Daniel Clarke got the opening two scores of the second half ending a great team move and when Lorcan Conner converted another free on 44 mins it was to be Na Dunaibh’s last score. Naomh Colmcille remained on top and further scores from John Fullerton and two from the superb Daniel Clarke seen the home side run out comfortable winners.
