Donegal County Committee together with all Donegal Gaels offer their sympathies to the Family, Friends & MacCumhaill Club members on the passing of the late Jack Hannigan (RIP).
Jack was the tunnel steward for over 50 years at MacCumhaills Park. A former player for the Club as a Footballer and Hurler. Jack attended many games throughout his life but was a home in MacCumhaill Park, in a 2015 interview with reporter Chris McNulty Jack made clear his love of being in the grounds by stating “if there is a ball rattling I’ll be there ”
He was so proud to have received the lifetime achievement award at the county final in 2013 and almost to the day it was his 100 birthday, He was also inducted into our Hall Of Fame a number of years ago at the county Banquet at which he attended along with his daughter Annette
In 2015 he was honored by the Ulster Sports Writers and was so proud to have received this recognition unfortunately he could not attend but he was interviewed prior to the the event which was shown on the day and it brought the house down with his wit and memory
Jack’s involvement spans decades and he is the only surviving member of the winning Democrat Cup team of 1932 when the club was then known as Erin’ Hope. He was also part of the team that won the Junior Championship in 1955. In 1956 the club changed its name to Sean MacCumhaills and Jack has continued his involvement up to this day.
Jack is predeceased by his wife Winifred, and son Pat.

Jacks funeral arrangements are as follows
Remains reposing at his home on Friday, Dec 29th, from 4pm until rosary at 10pm, and on Saturday, Dec 30th, from 11am until rosary at 10pm. Funeral leaving his home on Sunday, Dec 31st, at 10.40am for requiem Mass at 11am in the Church of Mary Immaculate, Stranorlar. Interment afterwards in Stranorlar Cemetery. No flowers please. Family time on the morning of the funeral.
