Last Saturday evening in Dooey the second round robin championship contest saw St Mary’s travel to Lettermacaward in a game that both teams had to secure points for any hope of qualifying for the next round of the competition.
Na Rossa through the lively Odhran Molloy went 2 scores up at the outset but Convoy hit back strongly with 5 unanswered points through the accurate kicking of corner forward Antony Brown (4 points) and Ryan Kettle.
Convoy playing with a slight breeze in the first half took full advantage and took a 4 point lead into the break 0-8 to the home sides 0-4 .
Na Rossa started the second half strongly and levelled up the match 8 points a piece through JP McCready (0-2), Adam Mchugh and a super score from a very narrow angle from the pacy Conor McCahill. A pivotal point with 12 minutes gone in the second half as Odhran Molloy received 2 yellow cards and now Na Rossa were down to 14 men.
It was point for point after that with time running out as John Antony McMullan and Michael Ayton put 2 points between the sides again. JP McCready narrowed the gap again to the bare minimum but Convoy held on to win and register 2 valuable points .
