Under 12 Boys Football

The Under 12A team had a fantastic win over Moville on Tuesday night. There was a lot of good play from the boys and they showed a big improvement from last week’s performance. There was some great work in the full back line from Jamie Doherty, Daire Tully and Ben Clark. Our goal keeper Brendan McLaughlin also gave a strong performance in nets. We started the game very strong and our half back line of Cian Doherty in centre with Olan McLaughlin on one side and Conor McLaughlin on the other showing some great link up play with each other. Middle of the park we had Kyran Cantwell and Sean O’Donnell. This duo worked really well. Our half forwards were Davin McLaughlin, John Callaghan and Danny Diver. Danny in particular had a great game scoring 4 goals and 3 points. The full forward line was Liam McWeeney, Michael Noone and Odhran O’Donnell who also scored 2 goals.

Under 14 Girls Football

Carn 4-05 Naomh Columba 4-08 What a game the u14 girls had on Friday night against Naomh Columba. It was a tough game to lose but the girls gave it their best shot. Naomh Columba were a determined bunch and after travelling for over 3 hours you can’t blame them. Carn got off to a great start with a goal from Amanda Duncan in the first 7/8 minutes. Erin McLaughlin scored a second goal for Carn soon after and it looked like we were on a roll with a point from Anais Doherty getting her name on the score sheet. Carn had a lot of possession through the great work of Megan Harkin, Briana Tully and Anais Doherty. In the second quarter Naomh Columba came alive and put on some pressure of their own. They scored 2 easy goals to bring them back into the game and followed it up with a point to go ahead by 1 at half time. Half time score 2-02 to 2-03. The second half was always going to be tough, Naomh Columba were determined not to go home without a win and the Carn girls had to give all they had to take the lead and keep it. It was end to end stuff with both defences working hard. Naomh Columba took their points well but Carn made life hard for themselves. Jade Doherty scored a great goal to relieve the pressure but it was short lived, as Naomh Columba scored a couple of points to level the game. Tiredness was beginning to set in at this and concentration dipped allowing Naomh Columba to score 2 goals in quick succession. With 10 minutes on the clock it seemed as if the game was gone but the girls dug deep and worked another goal through hard work and determination, scored by Erin McLaughlin. With 4 points in it the game was still there to be won, but Naomh Columba were now playing a possession game to run down the clock. Carn did manage 1 more point but the final whistle sounded as the keeper kicked out the ball.  Well done to all the team it’s tough to lose in a tight game but the girls showed great spirit and played a very sporting game. The season is over now for u14s but some of the girls will join the u16 team and the majority can play u13 later in the summer. Team and subs: Tara Farren, Emma Doherty, Elaine McLaughlin, Ciara Harkin, Eimear O’Donnell, Demi Donaghy, Enya Diver, Megan Harkin, Anais Doherty, Jade Doherty, Briana Tully, Erin McLaughlin, Rhianna Gallagher, Laura Doherty, Amanda Duncan, Eimear Doherty, MaryKate McCrossan, Laura O’Sullivan, Grainne Monagle, Niamh Kelly, Kirsty Gallagher, Letitia Crossan and Molly Gorman.
