Carndonagh GAA Club – Weekly Notes 12/06/2016
Mens Senior and Reserve Football
Our Reserve team were successful against Malin on Wednesday evening in the Philadelphia Cup. Final score was Carn 1-15 Malin 1-14. A strong start saw Carn build a half time lead of 5 points while a number of missed goal chances could have seen a larger gap between the two teams. Malin came back strong in the second half and benefited from a shot that was going wide deflecting into the net for a goal. They piled on the pressure before the end but credit to the Carn lads who held out for the win. The team on the evening was Darragh O’Neill, Mark Diver, Tiarnan Coyne, Nathan Malarkey, Evan Doherty, JJ Doherty, James Monagle, Dermot McGonagle, Cathal Kelly, Ben Lafferty, Niall McLaughlin, Shane Doherty, Christopher McCormick, Dermot Doherty (B), and Kieran Canny. Subs: Michael O’Donnell, Matthew McLaughlin, Aaron McCarron

Under 10 Football
Well done to the U10 boys and girls who all played two great games on consecutive days. On Thursday evening the club hosted Urris and on Friday evening the club hosted Muff, our players were all still motivated by Michael Murphy. They played well on both evenings with Friday evening not as bright as Thursday. The players wore their Carn Jerseys with pride and played with heart, well done.
U10 boys training next week is still to be confirmed as there are some school outings, various matches and training taking place during the week. We are hoping to play Moville on Sunday during the marathon, but again this is not confirmed. Details will follow.
Under 12 Boys Football
The Under 12A team lost out to Naomh Colmcille on Tuesday evening. A few injuries and some players unavailable proved costly. However there was some brilliant football on display from our lads and great performances in particular from Sean O’Donnell, Mike Nelson, Danny Diver, and Davin Mc Laughlin. A few of our under 10 boys came on to help and Brendan McLaughlin and Tiernan Kelly in particular had good performances. The boys can learn alot from this game going forward. Their next game will be against Moville on Tuesday 14th June.
A tough evening for our young U12B team on Tuesday evening against Burt. Burt have no team in the A competition so this is their best players playing against our B’s so it was always going to be a hard task. Burt got off to the better start and had a few early scores but we fought back well with a long range point from Brendan McLaughlin and a goal from Michael Noone to leave us 4 points behind at half-time.
Unfortunately the effects of most of the boys having School Sports day earlier and the stronger Burt team meant that Carn struggled in the 2nd half. they did manage a couple of late scores but Burt ran out convincing winners but all the boys are commended for giving their all and battling to the very end. Carn team: Sean O’Donnell, Owen Monagle, Eoin Fowley, Oisin McLaughlin, Liam Doherty, Daniel McDaid, Ronan Stamp-Porter, Tiernan Kelly, Brendan McLaughlin, Conor Lafferty, Cormac McLaughlin, Ben McDaid, Jack Moore, Michael Noone, Michael McCarron, Daire Tully.
Under 14 Boys
Our under 14 boys put in a spirited display again Robert Emmets on Friday in Castlefin but lost out to a stronger team on the night by 2-8 to 1-1. Cian Burke scored the Carn goal and Conor Lafferty scored the Carn point. All the Carn players put in a good effort. The team has one more group game against Cloughaneely, Carn; Kyle Harkin, Conor McLaughlin, Rory Lynch, Shay McLaughlin, Coran Donaghey, Josh Diver, Thomas Smith, Will Quinn, Ben Harkin, Ronan McLaughlin, Mark McLaughlin, Paul McCallion, James Kelly, Cian Burke, Conor Lafferty. Subs: Seamus Logue for Thomas Smith and Ronan Doherty for Conor Lafferty.
