Cloughaneely played MacCumhaills at home on Easter Monday with both teams recording wins.
Reserves: The reserves led significantly for the majority of the game, with the scoreline at 1-10 |0-2 with 10 mins of the game remaining. MacCumhaills made a dramatic comeback scoring 2-2 in the 4 mins of added time; however Cloughaneely and done enough in normal time to clinch a 1 point win in the end. Final Score 1-10 | 2-6.
Seniors: The Senior game was a much tighter affair. 1st half scoring was mainly dominated by converted frees from both sides. With Darren Ferry, who was Cloughaneely’s top scorer on the day, cleanly slotting over 4 frees, which made up Cloughaneely’s entire 1st half tally. Martin Reilly, MacCumhaills top scorer, also notched up 4 1st half frees. The 1st score from play was a point from MacCumhaills’ Darren O’Leary, in the 27th min. In the dying minute of the half Gary Wilson neatly intercepted a Cloughaneely ball; which was quickly off-loaded to Gavin Reilly who rounded the Cloughaneely keeper to find the back of the net; leaving MacCumhaills with a comfortable 4 point margin at the break.
Half time Score: CCF 0-4, MacCumhaills 1-5.
Cloughaneely were much more dominant in possession in the 2nd half; with the MacCumhaills men having difficulty keeping Kevin Mulhern at bay. Cloughaneely’s 1st point from play came from John McGarvey in the 33 min. Martin Reilly responded shortly after with his 5th converted free. Cloughaneely continued to knock points of the margin difference with some well worked points from Martin McGuire, Darren Ferry and Cian McFadden. In an attempt to maintain their lead the trio of Nathan Gavigan, Martin O’Reilly and Gavin Reilly collaborated to knock over another MacCumhaills point in the 43rd min; leaving a 2 point difference and all to play for in the final 15 mins. Cloughaneely’s Darren Ferry, who produced a fine performance on the day, got the home side to within 1 point of the visitors. MacCumhaills extended the lead back to 2 points in the 27th min with an excellent long range point from Darren O’Leary. Cloughaneely continued to drive on and worked the ball back up the pitch where a spectacular piece of play from Martin McGuire and Lee O’Brien allowed Mark Harley to guide the ball into the back of the MacCumhaills net to send Cloughaneely into a 1 point lead in the dying minutes. An additional Darren Ferry point in added time secured the victory for the home side.
