Notes Week Ending Sunday 25th October

A big weekend for our club and alot of silverware collected, congratulations to all involved

Reserve Intermediate Final Buncrana 1-08 Gaeil Fhánada 0-04

CLG Bun Cranncha overcame existing champions Gaeil Fhánada to take the Intermediate Reserve Championship title back to The Scarvey.

Kevin Treacy got our mighty men off to a flying start in the 9th minute with his first of many scores of the day followed by another from 45. Adrian McColgan stretched the lead in the 18th minute following shortly by Noel Mc Laughlin and David Bell sending the boys in at half time with a 0-5 to 0-0. A 48th minute goal by Kevin Treacy ended any hopes of a comeback for Gaeil Fhánada, who were left to count the cost of 11 wides and with this Tracey ended his winning steak with 2 more points in added time.

The aim for this side this season was to prepare the club’s younger players for the first fifteen and on the evidence of this game there are four or five members of this panel who will make that step up with ease next season.

Buncrana: Ryan McElhinney; John Doherty, Andrew McLaughlin, Ronan Doherty; Simon McGrory, Adrian McColgan (0-1), Aedan Stokes; Gavin McElhinney, Stephen Dean McFadden; Noel McLaughlin (0-1), Kieran McNicholas, William McLaughlin; Shane McClean, Kevin Treacy (1-5, 2 ’45), David Bell (0-1). Subs: Stephen McGonigle for Stokes (44), Paul McGonigle for McClean (47), Kevin McClean for N.McLaughlin (55), Patrick Duffy for McElhinney (60), Conor O’Donnell for McNicholas (60).

Donegal Ladies League Division Two Buncrana 1-10 St Mary’s Convoy 2-2

The strength and commitment of our senior ladies panel was on show in Burt on Sunday. Having started their league campaign in March and winning a County Championship Title and progressing to the Ulster semi final, the panel were given the bank holiday weekend off to relax from football and spend some time with their families. Their successful league campaign over the months seen them qualify for a league final against Convoy but unfortunately the fixture was fixed for the Sunday of the bank holiday weekend. The club was unsuccessfully in trying to arrange a rescheduling of the fixture and the match went ahead in Burt on Sunday morning. Our ladies team that took to the field was missing 11 players but the brave supporters that travelled to Burt saw a panel of 21 girls who were eager to compete in this final and represent their club to the best of their ability and try and win this final. This is testament to the commitment of this panel and the underage teams who came to help their club in their hour of need. The girls played against the wind in the first half and from the very start showed they were up for the challenge and Paula Mc Grory in her new midfield role scored a point straight from the throw in. The mid field was controlled by Paula and Deidre Grant and along with the forward players kept most of the play in the Convoy half. At half time Convoy were kept to just 2 scores (1 -1) and this was down to hard work and pressure put on their forwards by our defence, ..score at half time was Buncrana 0- 6 Convoy 1 – 1. The second half was a different affair and Convoy put up a stronger challenge and it was nip and tuck for long periods and both sides failing to convert their scoring chances. Despite missing several scoring opportunities Buncrana scored 1 – 4 while Convoy were again kept to 2 scores 1-1. The final scoreline was Buncrana 1 – 10 Convoy 2 – 2. The ladies have added another trophy to their collection of silverware and will play in Division 1 next year along with Termon, Glenfin, Moville, St Eunans, Carndonagh and Milford. It will be a big test for them but one which they will relish and will build and learn from and hopefully win some more titles along the way

U16 Hurling Derry League Final Buncrana 3-13 Ballinascreen 2-10

Buncrana u16 hurlers completed their remarkable season with a convincing home win against Derry kingpins Ballinascreen in the last Derry League fixture and ultimately claim the Derry league title, this league actually included teams from Armagh and Tyrone as well.

The boys were on top from the throw in and were never behind throughout the game , and although wasteful at times in front of goal ,were always doing enough to stay on top.First half points from Arran Craig,Dylan Duffy,Paul Tourish, and Ben roe Doherty left the the Scarvey boys 0:8 to 0:4 , in front at the halftime whistle,

Ballinascreen came to within a point after the resumption of the second half with a soft goal conceded, but our boys had belief and began to take back control around the centre area, a scrambled buncrana goal from an initial Arran Craig attempt eased any fears of a Derry comeback,Screen replied with another goal, Buncrana then hit a purple patch in the next 10 minutes too basically seal the game, Oisin Grant got probably the score of the game, receiving the ball on the 21 yard line beat 2 defenders an unleashed an unstoppable shot to the back of the net, further points from Dylan, and Ben help build the lead, then up stepped Jack Callaghan to claim a fitting and deserved goal to seal the win driving the ball to the back of the net.,Final Score 3:13 to 2:10

The team can take great credit in this achievement and is testament to their individual and collective ability, and hopefully these boys will continue to build on this win and be a backbone for future senior sides in the club.

The platform for this win was based on a tight defence Mark Craig deputised in nets for missing Jason Campbell, but had great cover in front from Fiachra,Oisin (roe) Oisin Hegarty,Mathew Wilson,John Vaughan and Pjmc Carron.in the Middle third Dylan, Paul,Ben, Niall and Oisin were simply dominant, livily Arran Craig had a game to remember along with hard working Darren Connolly and Gabhan Kelly.but highlight of the second half was Jack Callaghans net buster.

Team and scorers.Mark Craig,Mathew Wilson,Fiachra mac Lochlainn,Oisin Hegarty,John Vaughan,Pjmc Carron,Oisin (roe) Doherty,Paul Tourish (0:3), Ben Doherty (0:2)Arran Craig, Oisin Grant(1:0),Niall O Doherty,Darren Connolly,Dylan Duffy (0:6) ,Gabhan Kelly subs:Jack Callaghan(1:0)Cathal og Wilson,Liam O Doherty,Ryan Hegarty,Tom mc Laughlin.
