CLUB NOTES FOR WEEK ENDING AUGUST 30th 2015
MEN:
In Round 2 of the Senior Championship the Reserves lost out to a stronger Naomh Muire. In a superb senior game of football, Noel O’Donnell pulled off a couple of fantastic goal line saves to keep us in the game when Naomh Muire managed to break through our defence on a night when our defenders made a number of significant saves and turnovers. The great team effort was reflected in the range of players who got their names on the scoresheet, Daireann Gibson, Steve McElwaine, Paddy McDaid and John McCafferty each registered a point, while Christy Conaghan scored two from play and a free, Dáire McDad scored three frees and a point from play and Ricky Gallagher netted a goal and a point. Next week’s final round of the Group Stage of the Championship sees both teams play Kilcar at Towney in vital games at Reserve and Senior level, with 12.30 and 2pm throw-in times.
LADIES:
The Juniors ladies are back in action and due to play Fanad this Sunday at 10:30 am in Trialoch Fanad, leaving Termon pitch at 9:15. They are also due to play Glenswilly at home next Sunday the 30th. Training this week is on Wednesday and Friday evening at 7.
The minor ladies played their semi final against Moville on Sunday past. Unfortunately despite the girls’ best efforts Moville’s experience won out in the end. A disappointing end to a great year for the girls, who played with heart and determination in every game. Some very talented players who all have bright futures ahead of them.
The U16s are away to Gaoth Dobhair next Tuesday September 1st, details TBC. Training is on this Wednesday and Friday at 6:30.
The U14 girls made the journey to Athlone on Saturday to compete in the All Ireland Community Games Finals. The girls were drawn against the Kerry team Kilorgan, which was made up of girls from three different clubs and they had also held trials for the girls to make the team, but what a fight our wee club put up, at one stage we were 6 points down with 2 quarters left and we threw everything at them. But with hitting the crossbar twice and a few wides the clock beat us and it was a 1 point win for Kilorgan. That left us to fight out with the Leitrim team for the third or fourth place, unfortunately the girls were unable to get going on the day and Leitrim ran out the comfortable winners. Kilorgan went onto win the competition by beating Dublin giants Lunan Sarsfield to become the first place victors. The standard is huge at the national finals, the girls have had a fantastic year since starting training in January and didn’t lose a league or championship game and are county A champions. They also were crowned Donegal and Ulster community games champions so really not a bad year. We would like to thank all the businesses and local people who helped the girls in anyway this year and also would like to thank Lisa Mc Glynn and Eugene Trearty for their help. Also a massive congratulations to the girls and to Paddy Mc Menanim for all their success this year.
The U13s A team play Red Hughs at 12pm on Sunday, at The Burn Road. The B team play Dungloe away on Saturday, cars leaving the pitch at 10 am. Any queries contact Lisa on 0851650782.
Donegal Development Squads: There are U13 and U15 county development squads starting on Sunday 6th September in Coláiste Ailigh. This is for girls born in the years 2000 and 2002, no other years at the moment. Only girls that are able to commit to the full 12 week coaching should attend as places are limited to only 4/5 girls per club. Anyone interested should contact Paddy on 0872175234 for more info.

The start of the U13 season is fast approaching so Paddy and James are hoping to have games this weekend, more details will be sent to parents in the coming days.
Our U16 boys qualified for the NRB Div 2 Championship Semi final when they defeated a battling Urris team on Monday last at the Burn Road. From Ryan Mc Fadden’s opening point our boys maintained the lead throughout but it took a late gaol to ensure the victory. Ciaran Black and Caolan Gallagher were impressive in defence while Shane Doherty, Eoin Doherty and Brian Alcorn were prominent in the forward line. Well done lads and this result should ensure a home semi final in two weeks time.
Congrats to Lee Doherty and James Mc Sharry and all their team mates in the Donegal U17 team on their Mc Guigan Cup success last weekend. James was not available for selection due to injury but Lee played in both games and performed very well. Well done boys.
Termon U10s played in a blitz hosted by the Malin GAA club last Saturday. The standard of football was high and was very competitive and the teams were well matched throughout.. Both teams gave 100% and showed great teamwork scoring skill and effort as well as being very well behaved. The older team narrowly lost their 1st 2 matches by a point, but settled down and played great football and won their remaining 3 matches to win the shield completion. The younger team lost their 1st match narrowly but went on to win the remaining matches to win their competition. 28 players travelled and each and every one should be very proud of their achievement. It was a great day out for all who travelled. It’s not often that you bring home 2 cups.. Thanks to all the players parents and coaches and a special thanks to Malin GAA club who were excellent hosts. Even the weather was good. It is great to see all the training and practice paying off. We are hoping to either have training or a match this Saturday. We will send out a text once finalised. We are hoping to have several more matches shortly, including another tournament in Strabane on 19.09.15
