Buncrana GAA Notes for Week Ending Sunday 14th June
5 Year Development Plan
There will be a meeting in the clubhouse on Tuesday at 8pm to discuss a five year plan for the club. All interested parties should attend. This meeting is open to all Club members and will be your opportunity to inform and shape the development of the Club, its facilities, role in the community and other strategic matters for the future. Contact Chris Walsh or Jim Gillen for further information.
Mizen to Malin Fundraiser
Our intrepid (some would say crazy!) cyclists are putting in the last few miles of training before they head of to Mizen to cycle the whole way to Malin. I’m sure they’re praying for the weather to improve! They plan to finish in Malin Head on Sunday 5th (times to be confirmed later, when they see how they’re getting on). The hardy cyclists and their loyal entourage hope to see a good crowd up there from the Club to spur them on.
The training is going well with MOST of the group completing the century (100 miles) over the last couple of weeks. There’s stiff competition on to see who gets the 1st saddle sore…and the loser will have to rub in the ointment!!!!
Sponsorship cards are on the go and anyone who is willing to take one to help raise a few Euro can contact Aine on 0863953380 or any Committee member. Remember, all the proceeds from this fundraiser go towards the Clubs development fund and a local charity.
Coffee Morning
A great spread and all for good causes at Friday’s Buncrana GAA Coffee Morning in O’Flaherty’s. The Club development fund and Scoil Iosagain Special Needs will benefit from this. Thanks to all who came along, baked, made sandwiches, doled out the tea & coffee and the organisers, everyone who put in such a great effort. Remember, this is part of our Mizen to Malin fundraiser so please sponsor our hardy cyclists as they take to the roads later this month
Hurling Feile na nGael
Hurling Feile na nGeal kicks off next weekend, the big weekend for our U14 Hurlers. They have been looking forward to it all year as they prepare to host St Brigid’s of Blackwater, Wexford. Our U14 Manager Tommy O’Neill, who has worked really hard in preparing for the upcoming weeknd, expects some great hurling displays and looks forward to your support over the weekend. Here’s to a successful and memorable weekend ahead for all concerned.
A Gentle Reminder!
The Committee would like to remind all players to pay their weekly€2 training contribution. This has to be paid only once a week, regardless of codes/age groups/gender. It is not a lot to pay and look at how much you get back in return! The money raised goes towards the running costs of the Club and anyone who has questions about this or any other matter is welcome to ask any Committee member or their manager.
And While We’ve got your Attention!
Please remember that when representing your Club, in whatever Code, at whatever age level and either gender, you MUST wear Club shorts and socks. Elizabeth Anne has all of them in stock, along with gumshields. This shows your pride in your Club and respect for your team-mates. Call her on 086 0604075.

Comhgairdeas
We had 2 Club players taking part in All Ireland Semi-Finals at the weekend. Best of luck to Emma McLaughlin who is part of the County U/14 team who played Roscommon on Saturday in Sligo and also Caroline Gallagher who is on the County U/21 team who played Roscommon on Sunday in Cavan.
Underage Results
Under 14 Boys Football
The boys were away to Glenswilly on Monday night and went down fighting, losing by a single goal in the last few minutes. We couldn’t be more proud of the boys who turned up, only 15 again tonight and 3 had to battle on with knocks as our subs were used to replace already injured players! They never gave up, qualities that will stand to them later….final score Glenswilly 3-9 Buncrana 4-4.
On Friday evening the boys played their final league group game against the unbeaten group leaders Termon in the Scarvey. The Buncrana boys set out to show with a few players back what a decent team they are and that recent results don’t reflect the talent in this set of boys. They were asked to show effort and desire for their jersey and then show their skills. They did that and lead by 7 points at 1/2 time. Termon, a bit shell-shocked and determined to turn the game around, came out fighting and with a fortunate goal in the last minute they drew a match which Buncrana looked like winning. A fantastic display and well done to all the guys in the club colours. Final score Buncrana 6-7 Termon 4-13
Under 8 Football
Our U8 Footballers were away to Naomh Padraig Muff this week. Fielding 3 Boys and 1 Girls team, 40 of our young players showed up for a great evening of football. Well done to all and thanks to the Coaches & Parents who travelled and supported from the line.
Under 14 Girls
The girls have qualified for the County A Championship and are due to meet Glenties on Tuesday night. All players are asked to be at training on Monday (15th) where details of the match will be given. Also could one guardian of each of the players please attend a meeting at 8pm on Monday night in the clubhouse.
Under 12 Girls
The girls travelled to Muff on Wednesday last, playing in the Inishowen league, and put in an excellent performance winning 13:01-01:00. Well Done Girls and a great turnout.
